I have DVD CopyXpress on my older laptop and it works fine. I recently bought a new desktop and loaded the software. DVD CopyXpress worked much faster on the new computer for a month then stopped working. Suddenly it started reading the original movie very slowly,and then after awhile it shuts down the computer before I can burn the dupe. I have no idea what's going on and really miss the faster performance on the new desktop. I can still use my laptop but want to get the software on the desktop working again so I can benefit from the faster speed. I'd be thrilled if anyone has a fix for the problem.
Thanks !

It might just be that your running into more movies with protection that xcopy can't break. I don't know why your computer is shutting down though. The program should just freeze until you control alt delete and end the task. Also make sure your DMA is still on for the drive you are using.

Club42,
Thanks a lot for trying to help, really appreciate it. The problem isn't encryption because I tried movies that are not protected and when things didn't work switched to my laptop to get it done. I'm frustrated, I was thrilled to have Xpress on the new computer because it ran a lot faster until it stopped working. Thanks.

Does your drive have problems with other programs?

The drive seems to work fine. Its frustrating because Xpress worked so well during the last few weeks.
By the way, I downloaded a trial version of 1Click DVD Copy 5. It sounded the a convenient and easy to use product like Xpress. It seemed to read and write the movie fine ( a bit slow though ) but on playback the disk had serious jerky sound problems.
I sure like the convenience of Xpress when it works. At least I can still use it on my laptop.
Does the Patin-Couffin software play a critical role in the copy software ? I don't know what it does. I removed the one I had and installed the 117 version in an effort to fix the problem.

Thanks alot

@RLarsen,

As club42 stated, you probably need to turn your DMA back on:

http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/260038

I was a long time fan of DvdXCopy. I used Platinum RF along with AnyDVD. For almost two years, I rarely had problems, so was very reluctant to give it up. However, because you couldn't control the burn speed, my backups didn't work properly in all my players. I also had just acquired a newer, faster, computer and 4X discs were becoming very rare. I also couldn't delete unwanted audio, subtitles or set the disc size. This was always a sore point. Doing my TV series were a waste of time.

If you are willing to pay for a replacement, the combination of AnyDvd/CloneDvd2 is a viable choice. It does all of the above. They have a 30 day trial, and free lifetime updates. Slysoft is offering a discount until October 31st. You can get both for $49.

I want to thank you for writing and trying to help me sort this out.
I'll look at the links to the guides and will explore the DMA settings. What's odd to me is that Xpress ran fine for a few weeks before becoming unusable. I've tried a couple trial downloads of similar ripping software and they haven't worked so maybe something changed inside my computer to cause these problems. I am curious about the Patin-Couffin "engine". I really don't understand what it does and what role it may play in the successful operation of Xpress or similar software. I did install the 117 version of it. But like I said, I don't know if its helping me or hurting me.
I really want to thank you for the help !

@RLarsen,

There is an XCopy forum with help and guides:

http://dvdxcopy.afterdawn.com/

http://dvdxcopy.afterdawn.com/forum_view.cfm/92

First look at your DMA, dollars to donuts this is your problem:

http://dvdxcopy.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/276642

The last Patin-Couffin update for XCopy was 135:

http://dvdxcopy.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/280292

I emailed Xcopy International asking what the Patin-Couffin engine did, never got an answer. You could try:

I think you'd be much happier with AnyDvd/CloneDvd2, I am.

Good Luck!

Mack,
You put some time into trying to help me out and I can't thank you enough. I'm going to check out the lastet version of Pattin-Couffin and take a close look at my DMA settings. I'd like to figure this out because it really puzzles me. It may come to me taking you up on your suggestion and getting AnyDVD/DVDClone2. I hope it's quick and easy to use.
Thanks alot.

YIPEEE !! Success. I finally got my copy of DVDCopyXpress up and running, or should I say, ripping, because of all the help I received here. I deleted the program, a couple other trial programs, got rid of a version of Patin-Couffin. I also turned off a couple antivirus programs, just in case. I found a P10 mode in one of my IDE channels, deleted it and rebooted. Windows Xp re-installed it with DMA set. I did several reboots along the way and installed Xpress.I didn't bother installing Patin-Couffin again.
I just got done copying one of my DVDs and the read and write time was quite fast. The copy looks fine.
I knew forum members would make an effort to help a rookie like me figure it all out.
Thanks alot !
