Just bought a Mad Dog MegaSTOR 18X triple format internal DVD-/+ RW drive. Installed in less than 1 hour. Made several back ups using 1ClickDVDCopy and AnyDVD. I have had no coasters. I have used Sony +R discs, Imation DVD-R, and Verbatim. Roxio 8 came with the drive. Set me back about 80 bucks, but I was in a pich and the price wasn't too painfull. So far I am very pleased. Any thoughts from y'all?

Just a word of advice. If you plan to use Nero to burn with at any point in time then make sure you uninstall Roxio and run the "zapper". This is becuase the two confict when burning in Nero (and I thkn vice versa).

Even though your drives is 18x or whatever I do ont suggest you burn any higher than 8x (maybe 12x) on top quality disks such as Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim and Sony and 4x on lower quality media. not any faster then 2.4x on DL disks too.

Also I found this manual for your drive...

Hope that's useful to you.

BTW you have a very good drive there.

thanks for the advice. I have been burning on some imation DVD-R discs at 4x and not had any issues. What are your thoughts on the sony dvd-r/+r blanks? I have used them for some time, but see that everyone is saying verbatim.

Eesh, Imatation - what are the media codes of those disks? Run Nero info tool and click the disk tab, then tell me what they are, ok?

As for Sony, great disks, as long as you get ones that are MIJ (made in Japan) - thinsg to look for are MIJ or Made in japan on the box/package and an oct
agonal spacer between the disks.
Chances are that if you get Sony MIJ, they will be Taiyo Yuden which is the BEST media out there. Verbatim are also a very good make.

@bugguy

I'm in the minority here, but I have BOTH Nero Ultra suite and EZCD Creator 7 Suite installed on my pc, just not the Nero InCD program, There are no conflicts and both have been together for over 3 years. Most people will tell you not to do this, but EZCD has better audio tools for me than Nero. The two progs do not load at startup and never run at same time. JM2C

There is absolutely no reason whatsoever to uninstall either Roxio OR N e r o. They both get along just fine, on the same computer.

The only thing that you can't do is have both the N e r o InCd and Roxio Drag to Disc installed. Two packet writing software programs installed on the same computer, fight to control the optical drives, thus making both programs unstable.

I wouldn't have any packet writing software on the computer. For backing up important data, using that type of software is like playing Russian Roulette.

Life is good!

I was just using the imation dvds to get rid of them. I am back to sony only now. as far as the progs. that I use for back up, I use 1click dvd copy with AnyDVD. I have had no issues with them. I also use Roxio 8 Essentials to burn tv shows from my computer to dvd and have had no issues there either. Thanks for all the input, it is always appreciated!
