hey, I have a 4 yr old emachines pc running intel 82845g/gl/ge/pe/gv integrated graphics card. Is it compatible with ati or nvidia? I'm thinking of upgrading but graphics cards are an area i know little about. I bought Far Cry when it came out and my pc couldn't handle it so that goes to show how out of date I am. I'm not looking for anything top of the line, under £100 preferably, if not, then under £150. Would anyone be able to suggest anything in that price range?

Also because my computer is a bit dated would I need to upgrade the motherboard as well?

thanks

Well what slot do you have on your motherboard for a video card. It's probably an AGP slot... If its an AGP slot, considering that your machine is old, I would go with the ATI Radeon 9000. It's a very old card, but it's the newest your computer is going to be able to handle. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. That card today is probably about 40 Euro's....

Hey I own a simmilar one 82815 one version before the difference is tat one supports pentium 3's and on does P4 yes it does have an AGP slot i dont really use this computer I use my new one but i put a Radeon 9600se into that one the slot is an AGP 4X 3.0volts and 1.5volts,I will recommend the Radeon 9600xt or the 9550xt make sure the one you get if you get one of these two is 256mb that will give you a very good graphics boost from your old intergrated 32mb which is based on the old and crappy Intel I750 gpu

I would go for the radeon 9000

I I think that would be a very bad choice youd be better of with a Geforce 3 Ti I m 85% sure about the 9600 and 9550

From what I can tell I don' have an agp slot. I'll take a picture later of my computer innerds to confirm it. That means I have to also upgrade my motherboard too then, right? If so should I go for one that has agp or pci? How hard is it to install a new motherboard? I've previously installed new ram, new hard drives and new cd and dvd drives. Is it as straight forward as those or should I bring it to someone who knows a lot more than me?

you only have pci slots so try a pci ati 9250 128/256meg videocard. also cleanout the cpu heatsink fan assembly as you have a mat of dust between fan & heatsink
