I am planning on buying a Dell Inspiron e1505 and I've been looking between two of the CD drives. There is a choice between either a 24X CD Burner/DVD Combo Drive which costs less, or an 8X CD/DVD Burner (DVD+/-RW) with double-layer DVD+R write capability3 which costs more. I want to get which ever one is better, which I'm assuming is the more expensive one, but I'm not 100% sure because if you were just listening to someone talk about the two, you would probably think that a 24X would be better than an 8X. By the way I'm planning on using this machine for some pretty graphically advanced games, so I don't know if that would be an important factor when choosing a CD drive. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

If you plan to burn a lot of DVD's etc then the 8x drive is better as it has more DVD support, ie DL. Otherwise the 24x combo drive is probably best for you.

I presume the combo drive carn burn dvds and not just read them ye?

If the combo doesnt support burning only reading then dont bother with it.

get the dvd burner, which is the more expensive, as it will burn cds along with dvds

your combo drive will be unable to write dvds but will be able to read em and them qrite at 24X only

your dvd burner, the expensive one, will be able to write to cds at 52X most probably

the comparison with 8x ---> 24x
is wrong

as combo drive is cd24X
while dvd drive is DVD 8X and also cd52X
