I accidently deleted some registry files for my dvd/cd rom drive. I ran the program off of my computer (Dell Dimension E510, Windows XP) that checked the whole system and there is no problem. It starts the dvd/cd rom drive, opens it, and shuts it, but when I go to put a disk in and run it nothing happens. In my computer there is no drive for it. In the device manager it has a yellow exclamation point by it. I have deleted it and tried to update it but it won't. I tried a link on your site to update it but it doesn't work either. What can I go to get this drive to work, or should I buy a new one with a disk for drivers? I don't know what to do. I put another drive in from an old computer and I still get the same thing. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!! I am in a bind. Only 6 month old computer.

If you know what you deleted then look here for the dll files...
Dll-files.com
Dll Dump

I can't commend the reliability of those sites because i have never used them.

And another thing is you could do a systme restore to before you deleted them. I think that would cure it.

Thank you for answering a desperate woman's cry. No I don't remember what I deleted and I have tried to back restore a couple of months and even tried to factory restore and it will NOT let me. Any other suggestions? Will buying a new drive with drive even help? I have the recovery disks that Dell sent me (and one to reinstall windows xp) but can't use them, so will buying a new drive enev help? Because aren't the .dll files in the computer that I am missing, so it won't even matter, correct? Anything will help without having to take this thing in and get it fixed.

Well surely reinstalling windows would do that trick.
But have you tried updating it's firmware/drivers?

No, I have not updated the firmware. That I don't know how to do. Where would I go to do that and how? As of the Windows reinstalling, as soon as I get this drive to run, I plan on reinstalling every disk that Dell gave me to fix this computer. Any input is greatly appreciated. thank you

Had an idea...since I cannot remember the registry files that I deleted, is there any program on the net that can scan my system and see what is missing and then replace them? I see alot of programs for registry repair, but am leary. I need something to maintain and fix registry problems, especially replace missing registry files. Anything out there that you know of?????

I can't find any firmware for your drive so that's not important. As for registry repair, I have never done it myself so wouldn't be able to recommend a good one. As long as you have the system instal disks, then no harm can come of trying one or two out I suppose. Sorry I am not able to provide more help in that area.
