Hey you guys, I've been looking at some DS storage devices, I guess you call them, and I'm having a dilemma. When I get my storage device, I'm probably going to end up downloading a few "backups" (Around 4-9?), plus apps as I see fit (A media player for sure, and a good one, a web browser, a good skin [if I don't get the DS-EXTREME], and any other cool apps I find). I'm not really experienced in this stuff (actually, not at all, though I am not computer-tarded). So what do you guys recommend?

Thanks!

The problem with the DSX is it only holds 512 MB (4Gbits). Once formatted, its normally around 499MB.

With a product like the M3 Lite, you can have potentially unlimited amount of space - it all depends on the microSD card you stick in there.

The DSX runs about $124.99 (using prices from http://www.getyourgameshere.com).. while the M3 Lite and passcard3 combo runs $104. This does not include the additional hardware needed (micro SD card) so you would add whatever the cost is for that (my 1 gigabyte cost me $32.99)

So it really comes down to personal preference and future expansion. Neither solution sticks out of the DS Lite.. one has fixed memory and one doesn't.

If you're looking into a storage device for the regular DS.. I would suggest the M3 miniSD vs. the M3 Lite. M3 Lite is *only* for the Lite. M3 miniSD does not stick out of the GBA slot and you can easily remove the miniSD card.. and miniSD memory is cheaper

Alright, a few questions.

1. Does the DS-Xtreme support Wi-Fi? I know some devices don't.
2. How big is an average DS game?
3. How big is a movie around an hour 30? (estimate?) How about movie clips (maybe 10 minutes)?
4. How big is DS Linux?
5. How big is DSAIM? (http://forum.gbadev.org/viewtopic.php?t=10566)

All of these in megabytes. Thanks a lot!

BTW, if possible, I'd like to know the individual megabyte values of these programs. I'm not planning to put all of these things on the DS-X.

DSAIM is 400KB roughly, so 0.4 MB

Hour long movie would probably fill up your DS Xtreme.. better to get a portable DVD player for those things :)

Alright cool. I think I'll be set with DSX then. But let's say, hypothetically (heh heh) I just wanted a couple monkey spankers... could I fit those?

OK, I've done a little "Research", I should be fine. Thanks you guys!

BTW- Given the miniscule size of files that you would put on a storage card, what's the point of a gig or two gigs of storage? Seriously.

Also, would the RAM card from the Opera browser make it a little faster (For DSLinux?)

The M3 supports .mp4 files which are the movie files that they use on an Ipod Video. On mine, a 1 hour 30 min. video could be around 300-500 MB. It's all about how good of quality you want to make it. In my own opinion go with the M3 with Passcard 3 combo. You can order one at http://www.consolesource.com for $64.99 plus shipping.

^ just remember that the bundle for $64.99 is only for DS games and homebrew.. you will not be able to run anything related to the GBA

Meh, I don't really need GBA support. So that Passcard thing won't stick out of a DS lite? And how much is a 2 gig card for it? Is it hard to do all that stuff on the computer, like patching and stuff? And does it use a lot of the processor? Because my computer is crap (Mid-90's no-brand white box) and can't handle even small games like on addictinggames.com and stuff.
