I have a 6 year old MSI motherboard with a AGP slot. My old video card craped out on me [TNT2 64mb's]so I replaced it with a WinFast 128mb card. After installation was complete, all was good, but only for a short time. I started having other problems also. To make a long story short I decided to replace my tower with a new system using my new video card, as I had already spent the money. The guy at the computer store said I may not be able to use my new card as the AGP slots on newer mobo's are not the same size as they once were. I find this to be a little hard to swallow. As the card is newly manufactured it seems reasonable that is would be made for newer mobo's and yet it also fits may 6 year old board. Is this guy just yanking at my wallet for some extra bucks or is there any truth to what he's telling me? Thankyou for any advice you can provide.

i am sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but, agp is on its last legs. the new slot is called pci-e and the companys that makes boards and gcards prfair it over agp.

on the bright side you can but some boards that have both so you/ can use your agp card the use pci-e when you need a newwer one

Thanks for responding. I understand the differance between agp and pci-e slots and the fact that agp is old technology. The question was wether or not the dimentional size of agp slots has changed from a few years ago as this computer salesman is telling me, I do not beleive him. I'm looking for confirmation. I think he's trying to rip me off for the cost of a new video card. This video card was purchased 6 weeks ago [WinFast A340T G-Force 5200 128mb] and he's telling me it will not fit in a new motherboard with an agp slot. Is this correct, I beleive not. Thanks for any further remarks.
