Checking your log, I cannot see anything wrong. Your firmware is current, plenty of memory( although usage a little high, dont multitask while burning) good quality discs.....have you been successful in the past when burning DVDs?
I can see this which indicates your BenQ doesnt recognise your discs,

I was thinking the same as well. Let me try burning with a different brand of media and see how it goes.
It used to work previosuly in my old desktop and everything seemed fine, until I migrated it over to the laptop.

I know NOTHING about this brand of Recorder, however most "Burners" I have encountered show as a RW indicating Reader/Writer whereas this one just shows DD which is "foreign" to me.....is it a burner??
This is an example of what I mean
Quote: Recorder: <SONY DVD RW DW-Q28A> Version: KYS2
, shows RW.

Thanks Attar, yes gwendolin I'm using exactly this drive. USB2.0 External burner, been working fine on the other computers so far.
Just tried a little burn again on one of the DVDs at the bottom of the DVD rack and it went alright.
It seems to be pretty on and off, but most of the time it pretty much gives me the error "Device not available."
I'm not sure about the brand of the DVDs anymore as I've thrown away the plastic sheet ( for the brand ) but it should be SAST.
Thank you all once again for your help so far. grateful :)

Don't want to beat up on your media, but a current example has the largest Computer outlet in Canada (Future Shop, owned by the US Best Buy chain) selling 'Dataware' dvd's $40 for 200.
These disks code out as 'TYG02' which might make you think that they are the top line Japanese product, they are in fact made and China and are garbage.
http://www.videohelp.com/dvdmedia.php?selectmedia=3690#comments
Your log says you are burning at 8x, you could try cutting back to 4x and see if the results change.Simulation burns might also save you from using up too many of the disks -if in fact they are the real McCoy.
