Im new to ATI cards and im confused which is better since on nvidia a higher number meant better card lol

here the X850xt http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814102688R

Heres the X1600PRO http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814161034

Which card is better and maybe theres a better crd for under 100$? Also i would a 300 wat power supply run a gpu like that?

HP AMD Athlon 64 3800+ 2.4Ghz
1.5 Gig DDR SDRAM PC3200
200 Gig Harddrive 7200RPM
Nvidia Geforce 8600GT 512meg(PCI-E)
Windows XP Media Center 2005 Edition

the 1600s suck for gaming

$15 more and you can get this,
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814130054

a much better card, but you will want a 400w psu to keep it happy

I really don't know which of those cards is better, but a 300W PSU is not nearly enough to power the vid card and everything else in your computer.

I would get a minimum of 450W for a PSU. I use an Antec 550W TrueBlue2 PSU in my main computer.

The X850XT could match the 7600GT, but the X1600 couldn't. Agree with the PSU requirements.

It's true about DDR1 and DDR2 being incompatible. Different size. The RAM in that PC is DDR1.

Any standard HP PSU won't be sufficient for any of those cards.

Nope, it's on par with both, check the benches. Some times the 7600 wins, some times it loses. The only downer is that it uses more power and doesnt have PS3.0.

i was doing just and i will hold my hands up. im realy shocked that it does so well in some games, it must need sm 3 for the ones it loses in. it makes it look an even better buy at that price.

sorry for thread hijacking but you might like the looks of this as well, sam how this for the ultimate gaming screen?

X1900 like mine, not sure about the CPU. it's quite a compact tower running it. There are some mad water cooled PCs here!

Oh well, that's what the official site said!

The spec sheet for it says:

Quote:

Base processor
Athlon 64 (V) 3800+ 2.4 GHz

*
2000 MT/s (mega transfers/second)
*
Socket 939

Socket 939 implies DDR1.

if the CPU is socket 939, it'll be DDR1, if the CPU is socket AM2, it'll be DDR2. If in doubt, try and email someone from HP. If you've already bought it, then when it arrives, run CPUZ, that'll tell you.
