Ok, I dug myself a pit and I need some help getting out of it. Whoever gives me help that works will recieve their weight in gratitude.

I got a new graphics card last week, but the screen was rather fuzzy. I got told it was old something-or-others in my motherboard. He did something called "flashing the bios". This did indeed clean up the fuzzyness, but my CPU fan was then stuck on 4550 RPM. Not liking a PC that sounds like a lawnmower, I decided to do a role-back to previous settings. This didnt do a thing.

Here is my mobo:-

I've tried downloading the Flash and updating the Bios from that site but its not worked. I notice there is a download there that contains a file called "CPU fan.DAT".... could that be what I need? If so what do I do with it?

It would help immensely if you listed what video card you put in the machine. Did you install the latest drivers for your video card?

Wow! Thanks for the fast response. :)

Power Color 9550 GameFX series. This one:-

It came with a CD install which went on easily enough. That was last week. The problems started approximately 38.9 seconds after the Bios update (grrr).

We have just done a destructive system recovery, wiping out everything in an attempt to restore the machine to its factory settings - Didnt work. :(

That card is ages old, so the drivers on the CD are outdated. Go to ATI's site, and download the latest drivers. Before you install the new ones, uninstall the ones you have now, reboot, and install the new drivers.

Read the installation instructions on ATI's site. They take you through the installation step by step.

As far as whatever you did to the motherboard BIOS, you better pay a visit to their site to get squared away on how to update the BIOS.
