I am trying to secure my wireless network using 128k byte encryption as you get when you go to the belkin website.
I am on cable (DSL) not adsl in the UK so I do not know if this makes any difference.
I have managed to secure it no problems. But the problem is when I try connecting wirelessly via my belkin wireless adapter F5D7050.
It is not allocating me an IP address. I have fixed a static one as per instructions of Belikin support but it then gives out some error about a problem with the gateway. The second message as MSN Messenger goes down the list in the trouble shoot. I did everything as their support said but still no joy.
My modem is a FSD7230-4. Below is what they instructed me to do:

Please disable all the firewalls (including Windows XP inbuilt firewall) and the anti-virus software installed in your computer.

Please enter the Primary DNS address as 192.168.2.1 and the alternate DNS address as 4.2.2.2. Once you have set the static IP address, Subnet Mask, Gateway and DNS (which is important), please try to go online and you would be able to.
i'm on cable and i had a few FSD7230-4's, they are utter atrocious rubbish. i had months of problems with those 'modems', in the end, after unbelievable amounts of hassle and non-service with those modems i returned them as faulty and bough a Linksys WRT54G. Connection has been stable ever since. I don't like to plug another bit of kit but Belkin for me have been absolutely dreadful.
One thing you could try (it didn't help me) is to turn off the 'clone MAC address' of the modem
ok cool so it is a no no on Belkin you reckon then? Was the issue you had the same one? Unable to use it wirelessley, or at least secure it to use it wirelessly?
Think it has a week or two left on the guarentee so I better work faster, what else can I try? Any ideas anyone other than clone?
the clone thing is on the menu. i found it doesn't work on my Linksys ie my Linksys doles out IP addresses to other PC's without the MAC clone; unusual as that feature is what's supposed to make it work with more than one PC.
my Belkins wouldn't work wirelessly or wired, they were unstable utter crap.
i'd seriously recommend returning it while you still have warranty left. i had mine work for days, weeks at a time then hang totally randomly, even cooling the modem didn't help (they run far too hot)
add me to the "hate belkin" boat too there support is rubbish, i had a router and adapter problem it refused to recognise the internet connection (ADSL) then when it finally worked wireless didnt even work. I also returned mines and bought a netgear storage router and laptop cards from ebay (108mbps) and it only cost £44 for both and thats delivery included.
It has worked perfectly since the day i got it, the so easy to set up literally 5 minutes no joke.
Please listen to me and creaky return the thing it probably wont be the last problem you have with it even if you fix this one, it IS belkin were talking about afterall.
