Nerovision 3, no DVD menu on laptop

I'm having problems with Nerovision Express 3 SE on my desktop (running Win98), so I thought I would install it on the laptop with XP Home / SP2 to see if the problem arose there.
Trouble is, when Nerovision opens from SmartStart there is no DVD menu, only CD and those below it.
The installation went smoothly and the DVDMPEG2enc.dll is present.
Versions are Nero 6.6.0.18 and NVE 3.1.0.21
Any ideas why the DVD portion might be missing?

I got Nero 6.3.1.26 OEM with the DVD burner and have used that with no trouble.
I downloaded Nerovision 3 to author some VCR tapes onto disc and that is where I encountered a problem. Here is the thread about the problem -

I found Nero 6.6.0.18 and Nerovision 3.1.0.21 recommended on another forum thread as being stable versions so I downloaded and installed them. The 'no sound' problem continued so I tried loading them onto the laptop.
It was on the laptop that the Nerovision decided it won't give me the DVD menu so I can't check if the 'no sound' continues.
The point of the question is that the software works on the Win98 desktop but not on the XP laptop - same software in each case.

Thanks for the quick reply.
I have already done the uninstall, clean with the Nero clean tool, and re-install. I've done it from 6.3 to 6.6, and when that failed I did it again to go back to 6.3. I also ran CCleaner to make sure there were no registry entries lying around.
And the files I have been using come from the Nero site as you have suggested here.
So I've taken it off the laptop while I think it out, or an answer or suggestion appears. The next step for me is to try Nero 6.3 with the Nerovision install on the laptop.

The speakers are not muted, but I can't see why that would stop Nerovision from installing properly.

Follow-up from previous post. -
I went chasing up my other question and found the thread has been locked, so I suppose we are following two questions on one thread here.
Q.1. Nerovision on my desktop authors my DVD from recovered VOB files but gives me no sound. The VOB files themselves have sound when played through PowerDVD.
Q.2. Nerovision won't install its DVD portion on my laptop.
In relation to Q1. The speakers are not muted. The newly authored disc from Nerovision plays good video on both computers but gives no sound on either. It also plays video on the TV but still no sound.

in question #1 ........ if it plays in PowerDVD then it has an audio channel.... where are you playing it to NOT have the audio channel playing!? Could it be that it's a DTS channel and your player is not capable of playing DTS so it has no audio?

Here is the flow of things
1. I have a movie on VHS tape recorded from free-to-air TV.
2. It's been run through my son's VHS/DVD combo unit (LG RC7723) but the resulting disc format only plays in that unit. I expected it to produce a normal DVD disc.
3. Isobuster finds "lost" VOB files on the disc, but not the full set of IFO/BUP files. The recovered VOB files play from my HDD in PowerDVD.
4. I try to burn a DVD from the recovered files but Nero complains about the missing IFO files.
5. I have to re-author the VOB files to build a workable DVD disc to play on the TV. That gets me downloading Nerovision.
6. Nerovision takes the VOB files, goes through what seems it's normal process, but the resulting DVD has no sound. Also, the VOB files on the disc have no sound when passed to PowerDVD as separate files.
This is my first time at converting a VHS tape to DVD and I thought the combo unit would just do it in one pass. Then I thought that the files that Isobuster found could easily be converted to a DVD. Then I came here ...

I read somewhere that the combo VHS/DVD recorders record DVDs in a different format. That's why it plays properly in the combo drive and doesn't in the computer! At least that's what I read somewhere here... I would ask the difference in stand alone DVD burners vs computer DVD burners and how to convert ......... Another thing would be to try ConvertXToDVD! it's a great program and you can try it for free..... the free version leaves a watermark logo on it but you can test it out to see if it works for you with this problem!

this program will convert your recorded DVD from the combo drive to regular DVD format! and here are some newbie tips:
1. burning speeds: burn at 4x so there will be less writing errors (rule of thumb is to burn at half the rated speed of the disk--8X disk burn at 4x).
2. read manual for your stand alone player and use the disks that will play in your player. If your player is less than 2 yrs old then it should play the + or - R disks! I said SHOULD that's why you read the manual.
3. try booktyping your drive to DVd-ROM so it will make your +R disks more compatible to players. Read this:

4. make sure that there are no finger prints or scratches on your disk that make it hard for the player to read the disk!
5. use good quality media (rule of thumb....buy the ones that are Made in Japan.) Verbatim is a top notch disk and is the only exception to this rule....some Verbatims are made in Taiwan and they are top notch!
6. and don't burn too close to the outer edge of the disk ..... which will make the disk unreadable! but using good media you will be able to burn close to the edge better than lesser quality media. Just in case I only burn no closer than 4400MB, so if you can set your programs to that, all the better!

Thanks for the tips. I will check the VHS/DVD instruction book. It's my son's machine and he's not a techno type - and getting him to read the instructions is like it used to be telling him to do his homework. :) Today is his birthday and in an hour or so we are taking his family to dinner, better leave the homework allusions to another day. :)
My look through the disc that his combo machine produced suggests that it records normal VOB files and IFO and BUP files for the movie, but no menu files at all. The files are not listed by the indexing system but Isobuster can find them. Then there is the machine's own indexing system which shows up as track 01, 02 and 03.
Since my last post I had a bit of a brainwave. I figured that the Nerovision re-authored VOB files didn't have sound, but the ones Isobuster found did. And Nerovision gave me the menu files which the combo machine didn't. So I just recorded the original VOB and IFO files to a disc with Nerovision's menu files. Success, of a sort.
Nero Express complained that there were things that didn't match up and the disc would burn with errors, and did I want to coninue? I continued and got a DVD that played in my TV player, but when I tried to burn an ISO from it to HDD to duplicate it my DVD burner told me it had 848 (!) read errors.
So I'm off to check the original files on my HDD and then run the project again. This gets me close to my original goal. But it still doesn't tell me why Nerovision won't give me sound, or why it doesn't give me the DVD menu on my laptop.
I will check out ConvertXtoDVD. And I think my burning software is checked automatic for booktype, and it's first preference is DVD-ROM, but I will check that also.

like I said, some stand alone DVD recorder burn differently than a pc burner. It must be a format or something that it puts on the DVD itself that makes it read differntly than other burners, which is making it difficult for your pc to rip it properly and therefore the errors and NO SOUND! Just my 2 cents.
