I hope I've posted this in the correct place!

My internal dvd writer/burner on my Satellite A60 laptop does not work and I've been advised to purchase an external one because to install a new internal dvd disc drive on my laptop would cost over £100 plus labour! I'm in the UK.

Does anyone have any idea where I can purchase a slimline (not too bulky or heavy) external dvd writer/burner please?

I've just learnt how to convert and burn dvd's and then the drive breaks down! Typical or coincidence?

I do not really want to spend a fortune on getting a new internal disc drive from Toshiba, so an external one would suffice I suppose, but it has to be compact, not too heavy and pretty reasonable, but also has to be able to convert and burn dvd's.

Thanks for your help in advance

Try
http://www.misco.co.uk
or
http://www.tigerdirect.co.uk
or
http://www.pcworld.co.uk

They all sell external dvd writers.

Before buying, if you want advise on any drives just ask.

i use USB2.0 enclosures and buy burner of choice for them (i've used a few different burners in them). The enclosures i have are Belkin which usually cost £40 but i got mine on eBay a few years ago for £25; at the moment i'm using Benq DW1650's

yeah I overlooked that one. Another option is to get an internal burner enclosure and put it inside, therefore acting as an external drive.

If you choose this option, make sure to get a decent enclosure, as bad/cheap ones can cause probelms with burns/connectivity etc.
