Hello all,

I successfully rip and burn partial chapters (25 chapters to be exact) from a movie that i like using smartripper. then ifoedit it to strip unwanted languange. The final size before burning was 4.92 GB, so i used dvdshrink with level 2 compression. Then burned with RecordNowMax.

It plays at my stand alone dvd player perfectly, however the subtitle became smear-off/bold/bulky. Anyone has any suggestions?

So far i've been successfull in creating the first 25 chapters.

When i try to do the rest 15 chapters, ifoedit returns an error (ie. missing vob sequence...). I was loading the VTS_1_0.ifo

Thanks.

Are you sure DVDshrink is the one smearing the subs? I have never encountered subs that got degraded because of shrink. Aren't subs usually under 1 meg/language, not much there to shrink...

That's what i thought too.
It might already smeared during IFOEdit. Because i stream strip in IFOEdit not in DVD Shrink. I might have to try it again and see it step by step.

This movie that i tried to make is japanese animation movie. It has 6 episodes in 1 title set. each episodes divided into 5 chapters (ie. introduction, part A, part B, ending, and preview of next episodes).

One thing that i just realized is that the "introduction chapter" has its own subtitle which has green bold font. while the movie should have white regular font. The smeared subtitle was also green and bold.

Maybe during the stripping process(ifoedit) it got confused/switch and end up using the same font as introduction one?

Can anyone help me explaining how the subtitle structured in dvd? is there any format that i can set in subtitle within .ifo files (ie. font type, font weight, etc)?

I'm sorry if the explanation is confusing. I'm a very confused person right now. =)

Hey, why don't you just use DVD Shrink for the entire process. You can just chop it off after a certain episode to make everything fit ya know.

I assume it is one of those Taiwan bootlegs that you are trying to back up where they stuff a whole bunch of episodes onto one disc right? And the entire disc is stuffed into one huge 7~8 gig file.

Well if this is the case then do a re-author with dvd shrink(latest version)

Drag that big ass file over to the left that has the folder "new dvd"

and then you have to the "start/end" button on the extreme right ,click on that.

you will now see a new pop up with preview panels for start and end frames. You can slide the sliders to choose or you can just choose chapters to start and end.

This is probably the easiest way to split up a huge episodal disc onto two discs (since dvd shrink wouldn't be able to compress it all onto one disc). Easy easy easy and best of all, its free.

I should point out that this should work theoretically. I did this once just to extract one chapter from a movie. It worked fine.

cool, I'll try that tonite.

Didn't know that dvdshrink supports chapters splitting/extraction.

oh, one more question. lets say i extract chapter 5-15. after dvdshrink done with its process, i should be able to burn it right away correct? or i should should IFOEdit to correct the vts sectors first (cuz i might need to use it anyway to remove the copyright warning from each episodes)?

Thanks for the reply Tosca
