DVD burner Lite On SHW-160P65 Slooooooow!

I recently bought a Lite On SHW-160P65 dvd burner and it takes me about an housr to burn a single layer full disc. I also noticed my Toshiba DVD player reading slow as well. I ran DVDInfoPro and they were only reading at about 2000 kbps or 2x. I updated all my ide drivers and also updated the firmware on my drives as well. I remember installing a new CD burner like 5 or 6 years ago and I thought Nero had a program to maximize the speed. Im running a Pentium 4 2.2 ghz with 768 mb ram so the system shouldn't be the issue. Any ideas guys??? Thanks in advance.
