Undetectable Memory Stick

My friend has a problem with his memory stick, basically what he says is that if he sticks it into his computer, it freezes. And when he puts into psp, it just doesn't read

It's a 1 gig memory stick bought in Hong Kong (i wonder why it screwed up?).
(because he can't read it on a psp, he can't format it)
Is there anyway at all of fixing this problem?

well, assuming you have a memory card reader that supports the sony pro duo cards, just try sticking it in the computer again, wait for the flashing light to stop (so its done reading the card) and right click on the card's drive and try formatting the stick... if all else fails, try another memory stick to rule out your hardware being faulty, and if its not your hardware, I guess your memory stick somehow got corrupted.

well that's the problem, because the friend says that if he sticks it into the computer, it freezes the computer, and when he takes it out, it's all good. I'm going to ask him to leave it in for a while and wait to see what happens.
