i want to finally buy a new pc
and have allways tryed to buy the best possible on offer after 6 months of deliberation i think now is the time
am i making the right choice i have £3000 to spend

2 things jump out at me;
first up, vista is out in jan so unless they throw that in aswell id wait for it.
and secondly, nvidia have just released a new motherboard(3 actualy) the 680i and it should get the best out of that gcard.
but that is a setup that not much would keep up with.

vista is going to be part of the deal with a £15 charge for special upgrade at end of january
nvidia new motherboard the 680i what sort of diffrence would it make in speed and etc
what other upgrades should i look for
and am i better off asking a shop to build me one with same specs and maybe better case ,fan.
Would it be cheeper?

Nah, that motherboard already has dual PCI-E X16 so it won't limit that card.
For all the stuff there I would go with the quality and dependability of a registered pre-builder. Stick with what you got and order that sucker. Should run Oblivion with close to max at 1600x1200.

the new nf68 mobos have been designed to get the best out of the 7900's and the new g80 cards in conjunction with the kentsfields. im not saying the asus is a bad board, in fact it is one of the best, i just think that if you are spending that kind of cash you want to get the vbest thats available, and for some time now its been the nforce boards. these have just come out, so as yet have not been reviewed by the critics(probably happening as i type, see what google can find out about them) but i dont doubt that they will continue to be the best.
check scan they have the lot you are looking at and more, just click where it says "3 is the magic number" and then you can customise one and they will make it for you.
£3000 will get you an overclocked, watercooled monster pc that will run rings around any other.
edit
the 8800gtx will run all available games at full on a 2500 by 1600 screen with playable framerates.

I'd say go for it if you feel like it, but save some cash, and have them pull out that TV tuner.
Tuner cards IMHO are a waste of cash and space, because unless you have HDTV, the screen quality usually is horrible, even with top notch cables and hardware.
See if you can add some extra RAM instead if you're planning on using vista *which i would severely advise against, but hey, it's your cash, if you don't care about having tons of trouble with your cd's, dvd's and mp3's, be my guest*
Also, to answer your later question about having a shop build you another system instead, if you where to take that kind of cash to a proper pc place, i think you'd be able to get a better deal alltogether...
But again, your choice, i'm just stating my non humble opinion as a techie here ;-)

sounds like a deamon setup.
i would take everything, except I would change the following:
the 8800 is a monster of a card, but I am not a fan of SLI. I would rather take X1950xtx. that gives future VGA upgrades more options, (with crossfire). 750GB HDD's are hella expensive here, so I would rather go for 2 or 3 320GB HDD's.
its gonna be a monster.

8800GTX far outpaces the X1950 though. Check out some benchmarks and you'll see what I mean. It's a monster :)

Ok ive taken every thing you'v said onboard
ive also been looking at all the write-ups
and discovered that this is "ONE FAST MOTHER"

It also has 2 DVI ports which are dual-link connections for running at 2560x1600 digital each. HDCP and HDTV-out are also supported.
at 2560x1600 resolution.
so the new Dell 3007w 20-inch widescreen lcd would run games like oblivion at 2560x1600 correct me if im wrong!

not 100% but i think the dual link is when both outputs on the card go to the one screen for the full "extreem high def experience" (thanks go to an ati guy for the quote) that is 2500 by 1600 resolution.
heres a review on the new chipsets that i was on about.
if you pair that setup with that screen(its 30"s not 20) it would be one wet dream of a pc :) iv been trying to talk my better half into letting me get one of those dell screens but shes having none of it.

Actually leggit123, if you read the reports about vista, you'll see what i mean.
They will be implying one hell of a DRM scheme that will be problematic to say the least... Google "vista drm" with the quotation marks, and be amazed...
I'd like to add i work with computers for a living, and so far the company i work for refuses to even take vista orders until the first official copies have been shipped and tested, since my boss is very opposed to DRM practises that microsoft has said it will be implying.
As for the tuner, sadly the technology is still fairly new, and again, unless you have HDTV or similar digital tv source, the quality will be sh*te on almost all tuner cards that i've seen so far.
Your best bet would be to check tom's hardare, see what they have to say about the matter.
And last but not least, there are indeed new series of mobo's coming soon, so waiting might indeed be a smart idea, it might make a bit of a difference.
