i recently installed a new hard drive on my computer... it is a 250G HD i also have a slave 39G HD... when i installed win xp pro on my computer it partitioned the HD for me and i only have 137G on my HD and i cant find the other partitioned part? I have never partitioned anyhting before and am a little confussed... i have already downloaded all of my music back on on this HD... is there any way to find the other partitioned part again... or do i need to 86 everything and start again?

If you have acess to it or can get hold of it, you could run software called partion magic.

It's some of the easiest partion software iv'e ever used. It will tell you exactly what and where your partions are and you can change them, be warned though changing any partions now will mean you loose all of your data on the hdd.

I'm afraid that your pretty much stuck with those partions now.

It's odd because you should be able to see all partions on the hdd under the ''my computer'' page.

Cheers.

I do have an older version of windows and don't have either of the OS packs added... for some reason i cant update them on my computer using automatic update from windows... i finally figured out why...i think i might be able to achieve rounding up service pack 1... a few years back i had heard OS 1 or 2 had a lot of things that corupted the windows softwear thus people were uninstalling it ( i think it was OS 2)...

After reading part of the article if i'm reading it correctly... if i install OS 1 on my computer and then go into partition magic i should be able to find the rest of my missing HD space... and will be able to split my HD and move stuff around without loosing any important documents...

Thanks

I started to read the seagate support page you refered me to... after a few steps i couldn't find what they were expecting me to find...

1. in figure 2 i can't find the disk 1 unknown: with an unallocated amount of HD space...

2. i have an older HD on this computer (master and slave).. nothing shows up as disk 1 unknown...( i tried unplugging it(slave) and still nothing was present in the disk 1 box saying unknown disk unallocated amount of HD space) so i shutdown and plugged my slave back in...

3. i found and tried to install service pack 2 and it gave me the following error:

the product key used to install microsoft windows may not be valid... Etc... anything I can do to get OS service pack 1 or 2...
