1) Don't ever, never try to make VCDs out of your AVIs by using Nero. Follow our instructions in these forums -- re-encode the file with TMPGEnc and THEN burn the ready MPEG-1 file to VCD with Nero.

2) If it says "file format not supported", you're missing some codecs, probably the latest DivX codec.

Like I said, you need to have codecs. Does the AVI open with your Windows Media Player?

Then the issue is very likely with the audio. Use the search and find for GraphEdit -- there's a FAQ in these forums that explains how to remove the audio from the AVI and downmix it to WAV to use as a a/v source for TMPGEnc.

I have had a few .avi's that had the same error, when using TMPGEnc 2.56. Fortunely I kept a back up of all my programs, and tried using TMPGEnc 12a. It converted with no problem. Why, beats me. So maybe you wanna check that version out, for the error .avi's.
