Downgrade to 1.50, and use appropriate homebrew to boot (usually DevHook), or downgrade to 1.50 and then upgrade to 2.71 SE-B" (custom firmware). 2.71 SE-B" is the BEST thing yet!

For all information on 2.71 SE-B", go here http://forums.qj.net/f-psp-firmware-disc...-wip-75744.html

For information on downgrading, go here http://forums.qj.net/f-psp-hacks-9/t-tut...ader-73464.html

You will need to upgrade to 2.71 to downgrade to 1.50 to upgrade to 2.71 SE-B"

Also, this guide here http://forums.qj.net/f-guides-hacks-home...2306-13796.html contains all the information you'll need to know about running homebrew.

Note that it won't talk about ISOs. To play ISOs on 2.71 SE-B", just make sure to have an ISO folder in the root of the memory stick, stick the ISO in there, and run it from the game folder on the PSP. Easy.

Unfortunately this would be the ONLY way (previously posted by marv101), if you wanna play DL'ed PSP games. Unless you buy it. Because you know it's illegal to download PSP games in the first place. Just follow the links marv101 has provided and it'll show you the way.

On another note, my friend upgraded his 2.6 to a 2.7 (officially) and it got bricked. I just laughed at him, some friend I am.

Shouldn't this be in the PSP thread?

You need to upgrade to 2.71. From there you need to activate homebrew in order for you to run the downgrader. Once you have activated, you can run the downgrader and choose to downgrade to 1.50 (you'll need the 1.50 eboot - all files are available in the links I have given. Just take the time to read it!). 1.50 is the magic firmware. You can basically do what you want. However, newer games require files that are in firmware 2.71. Until now, many people emulated 2.71 with DevHook, and then ran the games from there. However, this used up RAM, and wasted a lot of time. A person called DarkAlex then created his own custom firmware. The firmware was 2.71, but allowed you to do anything a 1.50 can do (Sony kept patching up everything with the updates, which is why 1.50 is the magic firmware).

This custom firmware allows you to do anything a 1.50 can, but can also do everything a 2.71 can (and more). The latest version is 2.71 SE-B" (the first being SE-A, then SE-B, then SE-B', then SE-B"). However, to get to SE-B", you need to upgrade to SE-B, then run the update for SE-B' and then SE-B". It is VERY easy, and the instructions are CRYSTAL clear in the links I have given. Just read and follow them!

This custom firmware also allows you to run some games that require 2.81 (and above in the future?) such as Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories. This is why this firmware is superb. It doesn't use up resources like DevHook, nor does it waste time everytime you want to play an ISO.

Once you are at 2.71 SE-B, make sure you have created a folder on the root of the memory stick (where the PSP folder should be) called ISO. If you do NOT have that folder there, you won't be able to access the game menu in the PSP, and it will freeze. Then upgrade to SE-B' and SE-B", and put your ISOs in the ISO folder, and then launch it like any other firmware.

Seriously, it is easy. Just make sure you follow the instructions carefully. If you have no idea what you are doing despite following the instructions, or are too god damn lazy to follow them strictly, you do face 'bricking' your PSP and that will be YOUR fault. It's basically brick-proof if you do it right. There's no reason it should brick so long as you do it correctly. And also, once you are on 2.71 SE-B", it protects you from bricking the PSP due to a recovery menu. By holding down the R button as it boots, you are taken to a menu where you can run an Eboot (such as a downgrader) to fix your partially-bricked PSP.

Just follow the instructions on the links and you'll be laughing.

if u have unpatched LBS then use that to downgrade. also SE-B isok but u can stay with 1.5 and still get C/FW

psp life = 2.6-1.5 > Custom Firmware Harley G's > 2.0 > 1.5 > C/FW XxPSPmadxX > 2.0 > 1.5 > 2.71 SE-C>swapped 2.5>2.6>1.5>2.0>1.5>3.03 OE-A>3.03OE-B/3.03OE-C

Follow the instructions and you'll be fine! Just take it one step at time. You couldn't get any simpler. All the instructions are there. And it has been done in 'one step' for some of them, such as downgrading. There is an 'easy downgrader' which compiles a whole load of horrible looking steps into something very simple. But before you can donwgrade with it, you need to upgrade to 2.71 to get it to work, and you need to use the homebrew enabler for it to work as well. It's not hard. Just follow the instructions. Either that, or buy your games.
