OK....I am not an experienced burner, but i have successfuly burnt both DVD's and CD's. I recently switched from Deep burner to Nero 7. NOW i can't burn ANYTHING....I have ran scans, ran updates, un installed my burner, cleaned the burner, bought 4 different kinds of CD's 2 kinds of DVD's and nothing i do will work. Nero says it is a media, or a burner cleaning problem, but i just don't think it is, because i could burn anything before i updated to Nero..NOW I can't get ANYTHING burnt. the following is my log, i can run a simulation all the way through, then it just gives me this error. i have tried running at the slowest burning speed, let the computer determine the speed and NOTHING simply works....PLEASE HELP!!!! I just want to be able to burn again.....thank you much in advance, here is the error log...

Ok,
Quote:
Physical memory : 510MB (522736kB)
Free physical memory: 91MB (93456kB)
Memory in use : 82 %
Memory usage = WAY too high. Don't multitask and shut off anything you don't need to have running.

Burn process failed at 8x (1,200 KB/s)
If you are burning a CD, then that is prety slow...burn a little faster for CDs; but 8x is fine for DVDs.

Also,

You need a firmware update...
http://download.fujitsu-siemens.com/Down...89-CC85475320D2
Download and run that :)

Get back to me.

EDIT: the firmware site is in German; but has english too. You have to follow the instructions on the site also which are...
Quote:
- copy files to floppy
- boot in DOS-mode
- launch GCAFSCDN.EXE
Ok...

OK....thank you, i hope it works BUT i have one other small question, or maybe a problem. I don't have a floppy drive on my pc, i only have the burner which i can't get to burn. SO what exactly do i need to do, i am not super savy, but i am a good instruction follower. i will update the firm wear, then try to burn again, i am right now trying to do CDs (with music) but would eventually like to be able to burn DVD's but one step at a time....I have downloaded the file to my desk top and await your repsonse. Thanks again.

It wont be listed as a driver. Download and run Nero info tool, found on this website, and check your firmware version.

OK, i hope this is what you need. it means nothing to me, but i know it will be important to you. it says somehting in the ASPI that the file is currupt, i just noticed it right away when the scan was running. is this important?

i found a program that did a check on the System ASPI. Here is the log for that as well, from what i can tell, i need that to work, but not sure how to fix it, or to update my firmware on my burner.

OK...here we go again, I have tried all day to get this to work and not having any luck. I know that the ASPI being currupt is part of the problem, but i don't know how to fix it. i also should tell you that i tried to install another program today on my pc, office, and the cd rom won't read it, it recongizes that it is in the drive, even when i click on the properties, it shows it to be used up, but when i tell it to run or explore or open it does nothing or freezes up. i have tried several different discs to have the same results. I simply don't know what to do, and ANY assistance would be much appreciated....i also still need to know how to update the firm ware, i have downloaded it and ran it, but it doesn't appear to be updating when i ran the Nero info tool. THANK YOU in advance for any help someone can give me!!!

Sorry I haven't got back to you. :(

Try making a bootable CD rather than a floppy to update the firmware with. If, that is, your drive will read the blank CD.

Use this to update you aspi, as it is old. I think that's your probelm, then you can make firmware update :)

http://aspi.radified.com/

Follow and read that ^ ^

Get back to me

BTW i have read through ALL your logs v thoughroughly and only found these things :)

I can't burn a CD, i think it will read a bootable CD, simply because yesterday i put my recovery cd in to see if i could find drivers only on it, and it read it. i am going to attempt to burn it on my friends computer, the firm ware update, and see if that works. Do you think i want all of the ASPI files to be 4.7? I have read both good and bad about it. I now ran Nero info tool and my ASPI is working, here is that log. I will update the other two to 4.7 if you think it will make good instead of bad. I'll get back to you on the firmware update in a few. thank you for not leaving me, i was worried ;)

I would update your aspi. Some of it is uptodate and other bits aren't. That could be conflicting.

MAN i think my hair is going to be all gone by the time i get this all working!!!! I got the drivers all updated for the ASPI to 4.71.2 BUT i have another quesion. I burnt the drivers for the firm ware to a from another one of my friends computer, but i guess there must be more in making a bootable CD??? The Nero tool when i run it, if the disk that was made is in, it says it is there, and (Mode 2). If i put the office XP disk in, which i need to re-install because i deleted something when i removed a virus a few days ago, it says no disk is in the drive. BUT I know it is there, the Nero tool log shows only two of the dirvers installed of the 4 but when i run the adaptcc installation verrification, it shows all four of them as being installed and running, so i don't know what is the problem with that. maybe it is not important, but anoying to me at this moment.

Nero InfoTool 4.03

Ok, this log has the data disk in the drive and it sees it just fine, the last one had an office XP disk in and it acts like nothing is there?

I tried to put in several different DVD's or CD's that are new from the manfacture, ie. to install new software. none of them will work, i can listen to a music cd i burnt, and the files i burnt to the cd that are data files it reads. maybe this will give some insite as to where the configuration needs tweeked? thanks

In my opinion this is your problem

Quote:
CDR code: 00 97 26 66; OSJ entry from: CMC Magnetics Corporation
Horrible discs, try Verbatim or Sony (made in Japan)

Also check here for your burner and then update your firmware, you have a choice as shown

HL-DT-ST DVD+-RW GWA4040N - B107 (Dell OEM drives only) / 1.04 (Fujitsu-Siemens OEM drives only)
(Known Firmware: 1.01, 1.02)
A Beta region free (RPC-1) version of B107 is available here. Patched by The Dangerous Brothers.
RPC-2

If most members are like me then they steer clear of realy long posts such as this...you have posted far too much useless info, all that is required is the Nero History logs, I suggest you edit out all the other logs.

thank you for the advice, i have removed the logs....still can't read DVD's. the CD's I have and the DVD's are both HP or MEmorex..your saying that both of these are no good. I have 52x, 40x, in both of them. also, there was no link to update my firmware, i have been trying since yesterday to do this, i hope it fixes everything...I tried to reboot in dos, and run the firmware update from the disk i burnt, the prompt tells me that there is no drive availalbe, like it doesn't recongize there is a disk drive on my pc. i have the disk in the drive, but it simply doesn't see it from dos. i wish i could just get the firmware updated, as i think this will fix lots of the problems i am having..but i am sure there is something else somewhere that is telling the puter to not notice the media reader/writer.
