I've been using PG2 now for ages and i was wonder when i watched it update...why does it need to block educational ips? if i watch it when it blocks its usually a university or college somewhere in the world...what thread do these pose to you? is it safe to turn the educational block off?

thanks :)

Yea, you can turn it off. Doesn't hurt anything to leave it on, but it's not necessary. The more ports ip's you're blocking, the better your protection is (theoretically), but it's up to you.

edit: just know that one reason (I think) it's available is because lots of skript kiddies go to college and take advantage of the big fat pipe to do lots of things like portscans and whanot.

hmm thats a good reason, but you say "doesn't hurt anything to leave it on" but donut most universities like you say have fast connections, wouldn't downloads be faster with it on?

Theoretically, but then most universities don't allow direct access to p2p.

At least not ones in the US.
