Nero 7 - Cannot start applications

Hi Guys,
I hope you can help.
XP Pro SP2
I was using latest Nero 6 and it worked fine but I decided to make the fatal mistake :-) and go with Nero 7
- uninstalled v6;
- used Nero Cleaning Tool;
- installed Nero 7 ? no problems reported;
- checked for Updates ? they were available;
- updated to version 7.5.7.0 ? no problems reported
After that: I cannot run StartSmart. It just flickers once and disappears.
I go to Start/Programs/Nero?. The same behaviour for ALL Nero applications ? ?blink and away?
The only way I found is to run them from their home directories. Actually I created set of shortcuts. Boring!
At the same time WaveEditor and SoundTrax will not start even this way (and I do need those two, say, more than ShowTime).
What I?ve noticed that in Shortcuts created by Nero Setup the Targets look like:
"C:\Program Files\Nero\Nero 7\Core\nero.exe" -ScParameter=8
What is this passed parameter for? Because all apps except WaveEditor and SoundTrax mention above would start without it.
Any ideas?

I'm having the same problems as you are with the shortcuts. I created a shortcut for Nero.exe from the core folder which worked for a while but this doesn't work anymore. I tried to repair the installation but it didn't fix the problem, I think maybe the registry has been altered somehow. I will unninstall it clean the registry and re-install to see if that fixes the problem for now.
any ideas will be greatly received.

OK. Unninstalled the program, cleaned the registry of all ahead logs. Re-installed the program and all is fine again, somewhere along the line the registry is affected and prevents the programs from running. If anyone knows how to prevent it happening again I would be greatfull. I'll post again if and when it goes tits up.

I think I'll wait a bit with complete reinstall. May be we will get some answers. The only thing I'm sure of is that Update did it for me. Nero Repare feature is pathetic! I tried a few things... don't even wanna go into that discussion now...
A couple of questions if you don't mind:
- what additional cleaning procedures were performed after Nero 7 Uninstall? You mentioned "cleaned the registry of all ahead logs"
Do you mean Nero's Clean Tool and/or some additional manual CrapCleaning?
- Did you need Internet Update after Reinstall or your initial Setup Set is the Late-of-the-Later-Latest :-)

Everything is OK up to now. After I unninstalled I ran Reg Cleaner and deleted all the ahead entries in the registry before I re-installed and it seems fine up to now.
(Did you need Internet Update after Reinstall or your initial Setup Set is the Late-of-the-Later-Latest :-) Not sure what you mean by this statement.

was the update available on Nero site after clean install and if it was did u go ahead with that?

It did it again. This time deleting -ScParameter=8 from the target in the shortcut fixed it.

OK. My mistake, it's still screwed up. It allows the use of Nero Smart Start but I cannot start any applications from there except Nero Vision. I can start Burning Rom from the Core folder though. So I still need help to try and sort it to prevent keep unninstalling then re-installing the product.

I had the same problem and did all the same things to fix it. Turns out I had a bad Serial Number. I was getting a pop up every time that I started my Windows Media Player for some reason and as soon as I entered a valid Serial the problem stopped.

Hi Guys.
yesterday i had the same problem.
now it seems to be solved. i think the problem was in some *wrong* serials used by me (and accordingly by You). yesterday i change it to *correct* -- -ScParameter=8 appears in StaptSmatr again, but NOW Nero works.

YES. It's the serial number I was using.
SiberLynx, change your serial number. If you can't find one let me know your e-mail and I'll sort you out .

Mainly all working fine here when I start from shortcuts created from apps home dirs. But I wish to give a try to new SN#
When this install stop responding to Nero created shortcuts?
I created 5.1 audio in SoundTrax. Use of DirectX plug-ins wasn't enough so I decided to add VST. I knew that a few of those are not compatible with all my Audio apps. Usually such apps. display a message and carry on. So I was watching SoundTrax scanning VST dir
... and than it came to "THAT bad plug-in" ... and SoundTrax just blinked and disappeared ... that's how it handled an error ...yeah! even not saying: "WTF! Incompatible plug-in!"... and immediately after that I can run all Nero apps. only from their bases ?!!!. Nooo! It is not SN# only. That's why I shared this boring info with you, Guys. Sorry :-)
Do not try tricky stuf with Nero! and Have fun!

i define that in Nero 7 (maybe in 6.xxx) SN is something like locker/unlocker.. for example - i know 2 versions of Nero license -
Ultra edition and Premium. in Ultra some features are locked (for example LabelFlash)
but Ultra become Premium just by changing SN.

Had the same prob like (maybe serial?!). I solved it by removing the parameter. After that it started just fined and also burnt my discs with no problems. So is it OK if I leave it without parameter or does that bring trouble with it I don't know about yet? ;)

Hi japjap,
Unfortunately I cannot tell u if it is OK just to remove those parameters. There are at least 2 reasons:
1) it is not right to manipulate with things of "unknown nature" :-). I still trying to find out what that parameter mean despite the package is working now fine for arround 4 days.
2) I read here and in other places that removing those from shortcuts created by Nero wount help because they will reappear and all other probs remain the same.
The only thing I mentioned at the very beginning of the thread that I created own shortcuts from programs bases or just could ran them from there and in such situation the mysterious parameter(s) are not passed to progs.
