Hey guys i would like to know your thoughts on this. When i take a speed test on a testing website it tells me i am downloading at 4810kbps and uploading at 361 kbps. Then it says that my transfer rate is 601.3 kb/sec and upload 45.1 kb/sec. Well when i download something large say 650mb + i only get a transfer rate of 125kb. I know that may not be awful but it just seems as though i should get more. I am using utorrent to download and i do not have a router and i turn my firewall off when i am only using utorrent. Anyother time it is on but not when i open utorrnet. Anyway... is there anythoughts on this. Thanks again,
Jonathan
There are many things that factor into your torrent speed. Number of seeds being primary on that list, number of half-open connections allowed by your system is a second. If you're running sp2, it's owning you in the face. Your ISP could be throttling traffic.
But all things equal, it's not *bad*. Find a fat torrent like a linux distribution with a couple thousand seeds to a couple hundred peers, and you should max that connection. If you don't, then something's wrong.
Thank you, I have road runner is there a way to make it where they cant throttle traffic? Also when ever i download something outside of torrents like a software from a website it starts at like 450kbs and then in 20 seconds or less it drops to about that same speed of 120kbs or so. Is there a bandwidth adjustment somewhere or am i totally wrong?
P.S. I have never seen a torrent with a couple thousand seeds. The only ones i have ever seen had 200 tops and then it had 220 leechers not always but generally there is more leechers than seeds. I am new to torrents so i havent been able to get it to one of the private places or invite sites but i normally use torrentspy because i have seen a few post on here that said they were good. I realize this contributes to my download speed not being optimal but it wouldnt explain my transfer rate dropping considerably when it is not ever a torrent over a host just a download from a website has i said earlyer. Thanks again
