2.6 Downgrade

My friend just bought a used PSP with 2.6 fw (not sure if it was factory 2.6, but he checked and said it didn't have a TA-082 mobo). I want to downgrade it to 1.5 (then probably 2.71 SE) but need to know the safest method to downgrade. I have an unpatched GTA UMD, so I could use the 2.5/2.6 downgrader, or would it be safer to upgrade to official 2.71 then use the easy 2.71 downgrader?? Since I can do either method, I was just wondering what method is viewed as the safest method. Thanks in advance.

just as safe as each other, but since your at 2.6 just use that downgrader

Use the 2.5/2.6 downgrader its the safest and always works first time.
