New PC, turned on and POP... little smoke.

Ok, I just bought a new system yesterday with the following:
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 2.13GHz Processor
Heatsink: Blue core (or something outragously huge)
Mobo: Intel DG965WH
Memory: Corsair 1024MB DDR2 800MHz
HDD: 120g WD ATA
P/S: 400-Watt 20/24-Pin Power Supply
DVD Burner: NEC ND3550A
I install everything, turn the monitor on, then hit the Power button on the PC, the tower lights up and fans start, 1 second later POP, and the PC shuts down. I then see a little snifter of smoke come from the top of the tower. :(
I then reopen the tower, look around to see what exploded, could'nt find anything, i plug her back in and hit the power button, and has been running perfect ever since.
Any idea's what that could have been? I tried to find where the smoke/smell came from but I could'nt, and everything is running perfect.

take a look at the can shaped objects on the motherboard which are capacitors, they are supposed to be flat topped not domed. smell the psu.

its your power supply i bet you....it cant support the min. watts you need...get like a 500 watt...i have a 650 in mine lol

400w is good enough as did a calculation with a 8x agp card & comes out as 264 watts.

I took her all apart and looked at every component on the mobo, nothing looked to be fried... but ever since then it's been running great.
Maybe the PS could'nt handle the initial load but after it blew a circuit, now it can? hmmm...
More thoughts?
BTW, does anyone know where to hook up the internal (bios) speaker on this mobo? i'm looking at all the audio pins and i can't seem to find the "correct" spot to put it.

don't you mean the case speaker to the motherboard? check motherboard manual.

yes the case speaker... no real "manual" came with the mobo, just a diagram of what pins did what, and none of them have "speaker" on them. It does have a bank for all audio but the pins are labled: L1, P1, + 12, GND, Z1, +3-5,... ect...

after going though all the on-line material, i've found on the data sheet that it has a speaker already built-on to the board. They also give the beep codes, but fail to tell you weather or not the speaker is actually suppose to "beep" when booting up.
because right now there is no beep, even looking though the bios, theres nothing in their about it.
Interesting.
