I know I am a neophyte, or a "n00b" if you will, but I have a question.

I know there is a thread that is all about unbricking a PSP, but it does not answer this question. Is it possible to update the flash fw if I open the PSP and access the flash directly? I am looking into getting a bricked unit so I can play around with it and in the end get a functional unit for cheap. Thankyou much.

i don't think that would be possible as it is only a small microchip that isn't accessable directly. If it was, there would be downgraders for all firmware.

Well, I looked at the motherboard (albeit via image) and somthing on it corresponds with the instructions I found. There seems to be a jumper chip leading from the USB port to the falsh. The instructions said that switching this will allow direct communication with the flash and let you install the firmare you desire.

This thing is a small computer, and I have done that with my PC many times, so logic dictates that this might work. I have also done it with my calculator (though I doubt that helps my case). ANd if this does not work, I will get a modchip. I just wanted to find a way to do this without getting a new mobo or modchip.
