First, please excuse my ignorance on this subject.
I have a new HP computer (Pavilion a1640n). The DVR that came with it is a LG GSA-H30L (Firmware S544); it is a LightScribe burner. In my old computer (also HP) I had installed/replaced two burners. I would like to take one from the old computer and install it in the new computer as a slave; it is a Pioneer DVR-111D. It is an IDE/ATA 40-pin interface. From what I can determine from the HP website, the new computer is SATA (not sure what that means). The bottom-line question is: can I install the Pioneer burner in my new computer?
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Yes aslong as you have free IDE ports/controllers.

When you install make sure one is master and the other is slave.

Thanks for your reply. I followed the link you provided and went into the Device Manager (with which I am familiar) to look at the IDE ATA/ATAPI Controller. However, there is none. The only controllers listed are the IEEE 1394 Bus Host Controller and the SCSI & RAID Controller; nothing else. Any further suggestions?

Well as long as you have the ports on your mobo it should be fine when you install them. Windows should add the controllers i think...
