What ISP are you trying to connect to.
Exactly what do you mean, when you say it won't let you use it?
Can you log onto management console?

Return it.

You might be able to futz around with the WAN settings. Most routers offer several connection options e.g. Ethernet, PPPoE, etc. If you're not getting a public IP address with the router connected, you may have to change these settings. The thing is, I don't know about this router nor British Telecom, so I can't tell you what the right settings may be, or if they can be changed at all. Some big ISPs like hardware vendors to make special firmwares so the product is tied only to their service. That's why it's probably best to just return the thing.

-Since half the questions here involve media problems, here ya go: Only use Verbatim or Taiyo-Yuden discs (get your TYs from Rima.com, not Supermediastore or meritline). Forget the rest, no matter what "brand" they sell under. Always burn at 4x speed regardless of the speed rating of this discs or your drive. If you have burn problems with these then you have to update your drive's firmware. For double-layer discs, only use Verbatim DVD+R DL and burn them at 2.4x speed.

Generally, to update firmware, you need to login to the router. There should be a menu option, usually under "Status" for "firmware" or something like that. Usually, this screen allows you to make a backup of your router's settings, but on many routers, it also includes a provision for updating the firmware. Usually, you just click a button on-screen, search for the "unlocked" firmware file, and click Ok or Upload or whatever it's called. Just make sure you have no storms in the area (if the power cuts out or your network goes down during an update, the router may not work). Preferably, if you have a UPS, hook up the router to it during this sensitive period.
