OK, i looked throughout the site and everytime i think i find something thats about the same question i dont get it or the answer doesnt work for me.
Simple question how can i take just the movie off a DVD and make it a Mpeg2, reason i wanna watch it on my Zen Vision. I travel around alot and i would very much like to watch movies/shows clear and crisp and not ones that ive found or DLed from sites. Not real movies these are Anime movies or Anime shows. Therefore size doesnt matter and im not needing to burn it on a cd or dvd cause i already own them. I have 60gbs of room on my Zen and i intend to fill it up with clean crisp Anime.
I can on the ones i got clear read the subtitles. But others its heart breaking to only hear Japanese. Im considering just learning Japanese because i cant seem to understand why its so hard to convert DVDs i own into Mpeg2 format. i dont know if this is the right forum cause im a bit of a newb when it comes to this. So if u all could be so nice and either direct me to the correct forum or if this is the one please explain it very simple cause im a simple person. If theres 3-4 steps for this thats fine, just please if u have done this same thing as me i would really like to know how.
I realy want to watch my anime!!!!!:) also is mpeg2 best format? like if u look up the Zen Vision W outa all those formats which will offer the best quality. Space doesnt matter.

I see, so im gona need to split the audio from the video first? Isnt there any easier way to do this. LIke a program for dummys where its just a click and wait 4 hours and come back and its a mpeg:). Also like i said is Mpeg2 format best video quality and sound quality. I would like to see it like how i would on my DVDs on my player. Thanks

Also question i bought a program my friend refered me too. It rips all diferent formats and then converts them though Mpeg 2 isnt one of its options, but it can rip whats called Video CD and Super Video CD. The files are .mpg and when i go into settings it allows me to choose all different frame styles and stuff. However when i rip into Super Video CD i dont have a player than will actually play the video so i cant see what it looks like, but it is a .mpg. Is Super Video CD format same as mpeg2? and reg video cd is mpeg1? I ripped video with the .WMV and it plays great on my computer though its not that clear in some spots of the movies, it gets a bit choppy.

If you rip an entire titleset from your DVD as a single VOB file with just the audio and subtitle streams you want (which DVD Shrink can do) and just change the extension from .VOB to .MPG you technically have an MPEG-2 file. The problem is that not all players will realize it's an MPEG file because VOBs take advantage of a feature of the MPEG standard that allows them to include private streams (I think that's the right name anyway). A private stream has information that isn't actually part of the MPEG standard (like Dolby Digital or DTS) which can confuse an MPEG player that runs into them. I'd start by using this method to see if your Zen Vision will play them. If it does you're done and you haven't lost any quality at all.

If it doesn't play them what you need to do is create a new MPEG file. The only way to do that is to use a program that can read the streams you want from the original VOB and put them into a new file. The commercial software listed in the FAQ can do that without demuxing first (ie load VOB file then save MPEG file). Cutterman, the only freebie listed can't do that (at least as of the time I wrote the FAQ).

SVCD and VCD are also MPEG files (SVCD is MPEG-2 and VCD is MPEG-1) but making them involves re-encoding the video (and usually the audio as well) so you do lose quality.
