I found a Benq sale @ meritline.com - New BENQ 1670 16X DVD Burner with free Nero Software, DVD multi Drive Supporting DVD-RAM Write, Model DW1670, Black Meritline Price$32.99 a decent price though it's about $40 something with the shipping ! Supposedly in stock - Any opinions on this model - I have a Dw 1655 alreday & it's pretty sweet ! Any opinions on the drive ?

The 1670 has a different chipset and is not as good as those in the 1655/1650 family and back to 1620. I have the 1655 and an NEC ND3550A. Both are sweet drives. The NEC is much more readily available. Last I checked, you can get it (Beige model) for $30 with free shipping at Frys.com. Check around and if you have to have the black model, I'm sure you can find it. Good luck and happy burning!

rcm999- Great information thanks ! I guess their trying to milk the last profits out of the Benq name ! I like NEC's myself too Nd-3500AG & Nec Nd-2500A ( External enclosure now) Though I use the BeNQ 1655 mostly as my main burner ( Booktyping +r's To DVD-ROM) but my NEC's still see the occasional Burn ! I would get a NEC Nd-6100 for my laptop ( Compaq Presario V5305Wm ) but not sure it will be compatible ( asked NEC they said depends on laptop & ask HP/Compaq -Hp/Compaq say the laptop will support A DVD Writer ( Burner ) but only recommend theirs & cost almost as much as the laptop ! Oh well we see later I guess Thanks for the help & info rcm999 & happy Holidays Y'all !

I got 4 of the 1670's (IO/Magic) from Staples on sale using ink vouchers for $12.00 each.A lot of the Ben-Q fans dont like them because the chipset doesn't support qualty scan's.Ive had no problems wit the 1670's the playback of my burned disc are as good as my 1640's and 1655's.
