Hi, I'm trying to connect all the bits to a new motherboard, the DS3. There are 6 sataII sockets on the board, 4 are controlled by an intel chip and the remainding 2 are controlled by a gigabyte chip. They are both the same speed (sataII/300). Which one should I connect my main hard drive to, a gigabyte one or an intel controlled one? Is there much difference?

Also I would like to add some additional fans to the system for added case cooling. I took two fans from an old box but I don't know if I can use them or not. The bigger one is 3610KL-04W-B67 12v 0.56a and the smaller one is 2106KL-04W-B30 12v 0.10a. They both have the same three pin connectors with two red wires and one black. The connector is just like a cpu fan connector (like a 3 pin one I mean), the plug is brown. I know people do add extra fans to their systems but my mboard doesn't have any more available plugs that would accomodate these fans (it has 2 of this type, one marked cpu fan the other marked case or system fan, both are taken). How can I connect the power for these? Some kind of adapter to the main PSU? Or do I need different fans? I don't think I will have an issue with power as the PSU is a decent brand and 600w. Any help much appreciated.

Thanks!

what does the motherboard manual say about the sata controllers? might be able to get an adapter that connects fans to psu but won't be able to read their speed with speedfan program or bios.

All the manual says is that 4 are controlled by an intel chip and 2 by a gigabyte chip, that's it.

check in the bios & manual to configure the drive you want to boot as shouldn't matter whether intel or gigabyte

Not sure what you meant by this?

Ok thanks, that's all I originally wanted to know. Although now I'm intrigued about your boot comment...

Any words on the additional fans issue?
