I am trying to figure out how to take a DVD and rip it to fit onto a cd. I don't really care about keeping the menus but it would be nice. I am able to copy dvd's but recently purchased a new dvd player that plays DivX files so now I burn downloaded files that are in DivX or AVI format to cd's since I can't tell any quality loss and cd's are much cheaper than dvd's. How do you create these files into the size of a cd?

You encode the movies using the codec DivX (which must be purchased) instead of MPEG-2. Alas, converting DVD --> AVI isn't extremely simple and our guides are a little bit complicated:
1) rip the DVD;
2) use DVD2AVI to make a D2V file out a VOB set containing the main movie;
3) use the VFAPI Reader cosdec to transform D2V --> Pseudo-AVI
4) Load the D2V (that is, te VOB set) with VirtualDub(Mod);
.....
I think some applications are a little more simpler (WinAVI??) , but I never learned simple ways, since I don't worry about complicated stuff (I'm rather experienced)...
Maybe someont can help you mure...

Do you mind writing a 30 second guide for this.

wow, That program works better then I thought it would,
My video looks real nice but there is no audio.
I ripped the video from TV useing Intervideo winDVD creator 3.
under audio Track/s all it says is (Audio Stream 0 PCM)
(NO Second Audio Track)
and under advanced options I have it set to Original (AC3,DTS,MPA only)
any Idea of what could of went wrong?
Thanks again
Also is there anyway to keep menu's in,
I started with the video_TS which is the menu it made it to an AVI but then it stoped and I had to use VTS_01_1 to due the whole movie.
so now I got two AVI files that = more then 700 mb (because of the menu's) and If I join them the menu is not going work right.
I'm greatful for any idea's
Thank you

ok well im pretty sure that a tvrip wont have AC3 audio so if u try it again, do vbr audio 128 kb and then u can put it on 1 disc and try to keep a menu, even though ive never made a menu for an avi

Well the audio problem seems to be an error on my part.
Now when I put the video in, the Audio shows up as ???LPCM 2ch.
I don't no why this didn't show up before.(I did something wrong)
I didn't do the Conversion again But I'm sure it will work.
I found about 3 differnt ways to convert a DVD to CD on this site and this is by far the easiest way, Im not sure if it's the fastest but it is the easiest,
(It depends on your PC I guess)
Thank you so much DVDBack
