Lately when i burn a DVD it seems like it works fine but the disk doesnt work when i try it in my DVD player. Nero will finalize the disk and the burn complete message will pop up. But when i go to get out of Nero it is "not responding". So i tried to update and i get error saying something about missing files. I am running 6.6.0.15

Hi NOSaints
Try this - uninstall Nero - run the clean tool and install version 6.6.0.18.
Package 1
Package 2 (recode & Vision)

Do the discs playback in the pc?

Ok try again but you can also post the failed burn log and we can take a peek.

Look here: program files>ahead>nero>nerohistory

Just post the last one and be sure to edit out the serial # - they usually begin w/ 1A, 1C or 5C.

In the 2nd log edit out the serial number - begins w/ 1A under this:
====== *** Nero-Burning Rom, History File *** ======

File 'Drivers\CDRALW2K.SYS':
Roxio and Nero don't always play well together so uninstall Roxio and run it's zap toolto clear it all out.

If that doesn't do it try burning these w/ ImgBurn (free).
Use the build mode to burn the video_ts folder.

Another option is to try different media - like Verbatim or made in Japan Sony, Fuji or Maxell. Look for 8x media for this drive.

Give those a go and let us know.

hmm i figured out how to us imgburn and i built an iso file and it burned all the way again (100%). When the buffer resides to 0% it tell me "finalize disc failed" reason: write error. I am using Memorex right now. I have burned around 20 successful memorex discs dont know why im having trouble now. I think ill go get some more Sony's tommorrow.

Laptop drive?
I'm thinking this one is going south. Different media and different programs = coasters. Not a good sign.

At this point I'm running out of options/ideas.
Laptop drives are okay - they just seem to go faster than their counterparts.
Part of the problem I think is due to poorer air circulation in laptops.
Alot is crammed in that space.

If it's still under warranty I would call the laptop manufacturer.

May or may not help but good to do anyhow is the regular keep the pc clean bit.
Disc cleanup, defrag, run a registry cleaner like ccleaner(use the cleaner & issues options), virus and spyware scans.

I have been looking at that site and i found this one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16827106016. Its a Lite-On. Lot cheaper than i expected and a lot of good reviews. So seeing that i used 2 different programs and the burns failed during the buffer phase after 100% completion, is it most likey my cd/dvd drive is messed up and not the programs? I am guessing these external drives are just as easy to make backups on. just use my DVDShrink or DVDFab then burn through the external drive???

Yep you got it. Just plug the external drive into a 2.0 usb port (most pc's and laptop's -if not almost all have 2.0 usb ports) and when burning pick the the external drive.

Hopefully the laptop drive can still read the discs - original's at least so you can read from that and burn to the external.

If you have been keeping up the maintenance and nothing really changed (pc wise) since you were last able to burn - the drive is more than starting to go.
You can always try different media like 8x verbs or another burning program but both Nero and ImgBurn esp are good burning programs.
Worst case if you try different media - doesn't work - well then use it in the new burner.

Externals are a little more than the link you had - check out the top 2 in this link - last one is a slim line external - no experience myself w/ slim line externals.

Good deal there NOSaints

Glad to hear you are back in the burning business :)

You'll get much better firmware support on this drive too - along w/ being able to use newer media.

Happy Burning!
