Wondering if someone could help me out here.
Here goes...
I have only ever built 1 pc before and I am planning on building a pc for my little brother and would like to know the very best quality and performance pc that I could build for around 650 british pounds ($1300).I have had a look at different sites to buy from newegg.com in particular but I am not sure that they ship to the UK.
I would definately want an Asus or Gigabyte 775 motherboard and an Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 chip in it, I have looked at several different models of motherboard but find it a bit confusing...as I am not sure of the compatability and such.. I am also planning on overclocking the pc to around 3Ghz and would like to know if I need any extra fans and that?.
If someone could give me an indication on what to get;
Case
Power Supply
Motherboard
Fans (Heatsink and other)
RAM
Hard Drive
Floppy Disc Drive
DVD Drive & DVD R/W
Monitor (preferably flat screen)
I am not bothered about the a graphics card as he can get 1 at a later date!
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated!:)

scan is a good place to start, they are cheap and reliable, but have a look at dabs, savastore, autdirect, microdirect, advancetech and definitly overclockersuk as prices differ from shop to shop.
to be honest i think you migh struggle to get all you want for £650, but i will have a look and get back to you.

have a look in the budget pc building thread i put a £450 core2duo there a few weeks back, but im not sure that the prices are still the same

try here it does all the hard work for you, remmember you normaly get optimum efficency at around 85% load.

650 is good enough for both of yours. Just make sure you spend money for a good PSU. It's always better to get a big name (Antec, Seasonic, OCZ, BFG, Corsair) $150 for 650w than to get a $25 800w from some no namers.
Thermatake stuff also varies, some says they're good, others say they're crap.
Then stuff like Ultra should just be avoided when you put it in a rig that you actually want to last even if those "free after rebates" seem tempting.

if you are specifically looking for a 850w power supply (with headroom for future SLI upgrade) and complies with a mid-tower case for a perfect fit, check out the OCZ GameXStream 850w unit i mentioned here in the other thread.

it's standard size unlike many of the other 850w+ and higher models which are too long to fit properly into midtower cases.

Sorry it took so long to respond, it is a XPS/Dimension XPS Gen 2.
Also I mostly use it for video and sound recording and editing so I would like to also make it whisper quite.

i dont know much about dual processor motherboards but I think theyre used mainly as servers and are more expensive than "normal" high end mobos. I dont think that would be practical for video/sound recording and editing. I cant really help you there.
