First off don't panic. Let's look at this a little deeper. ;) Can you post your BIOS "health status" readings? I bet it looks a little better in the BIOS. A few of your "values" seem to be off in both (all three) monitoring programs.

To refresh my memory what mobo are you using? I'm impressed with that Samsung HDD tho, man that thing is COOL!! My guess on your readings is the mobo is sending out "false" values due to a BIOS tweak or non-compatibility between the mobo and the monitoring progie. NOT a worry as of yet.

Get back with us on this info and we'll try to determine the bothersome party. ;)

Cheers greensman, don't worry I don't panic easy. It all seems a bit more sensible in the bios now, the 12V rail is reading 12.36V the 3.3V rail is reading 3.36V. Apparently 12.36V isn't actually that unusual for this PS, I looked at about a dozen reviews on various hardware sites and 3 of them had unloaded test voltages of 12.3V to 12.4V, and those reviewers didn't seem bothered by that, in fact they still gave it top marks. Word on these programs re voltage readings is that there is only 3 reliable ways of testing the PSU: Use a PSU tester (very expensive), use a voltmeter or multimeter (might do that tomorrow if I'm still worried), or the bios reading. If a program seems wrong its because more often than not the program IS wrong.

One of my co-workers is an electical engineer, her view was if a component is drawing 12V its the electronic equivalent of hitting it with a hammer and an extra 0.36 volts in a logic system shouldn't blow stuff up. I should be more worried if it said 11.64V

I'm using the GA P35C DS3R mobo, and the reason th HDD is so cool is because i had just turned on the PC and I had no heating on in the house!

So will I just keep and eye on it and assume its all ok for the moment?

Random,
LOLZ... ;) I didn't think you were panicking but the "bugger, bugger, bugger" was making me laugh. hehehe. :D

I agree on the progie reporting "false" info. It could be the BIOS needs upgrading or the progie just isn't reading the values correctly. I'm leaning toward the progie at this time.

I think you're ok but do keep an eye on things and look into a BIOS update/upgrade if you haven't already. good luck to you.....

i've been doin some reading in maximum pc magazine to find out a few things on over clocking and one thing they talk about was testing your cpu with a stress test after over clocking one they say use is prime95 or 3dmark06 they say that 3dmark06 is used in many overclocked systems that pass 3dmark06 burn-ins will actually fail under heavy cpu loads and people are tempted to use it..i also found out they took a pentium e2160 chip and oc'd it from 1.8ghz to 3.37ghz 85% overclocked, now a stock intel core 2 dou e6600 running at 2.4ghz eats up about 1.2 volts.to get the same cpu up past 5.6ghz,one overclocker increased the core voltage to 1.9 volts. now doe's specs go for the e6750 also as well that's my question?

here's a link on prime95

@bigwill,
Why are you running your memory so loose? I thought you had DDR2 800 RAM with 4-4-4-12 timings.... Just curious cause it should run faster at NEAR "stated" specs for that RAM. :)

...gm

@Random,
I'm assuming you were addressing sytyguy on the mobo BIOS. I have the P35-DS3P mobo. I think the BIOS version for it right now is F9, BUT remember the BIOS updates are for MOBO SPECIFIC updates. You can't "cross flash" mobos.... bad things happen when you do that. :D

Yes, I know, however for my E6750 chip I should be on "F4", and I have it, but been too busy to install it.

However, thanks.

Yeah, that one was aimed at sytyguy. Should have said that. Think i'll leave the bios for the mo, doesn't seem to be doing any harm at the moment. I'll download the latest one and keep it handy just in case.

cincyrob,

can i uninstall sp1?

Just for your own edification, you don't have to install SP1 first. Install XP and run SP2. I haven't tried that with SP3 yet, but I eventually will. Right now I'm just installing XP and then SP2 and finally SP3. I've been told that I need SP2 before you can install SP3, but you can throw away the SP1 as it's no longer needed!

greensman,

His memory is running at 936MHz, something my DDR2 800 Ram won't do at any timings. Mine runs at 876MHz at 5-4-4-12 timings. It won't run with the cas set to 4. It crashes when XP starts (the Windows Logo screen appears) at 4-4-4-12. My memory bandwidth is in the 7800+MB/s range and will improve with faster memory at a higher FSB speed!

Overclocking is an Art, and overclocking memory is the Dark Art! A computer's speed is nothing more than how much work gets done in how many clock cycles! Anytime you can decrease the number of clock cycles you are doing more work in less time! It's time consuming as you have to try all those memory sub-timings one clock cycle at a time, but it's allowed me to slow down my computer to 3.5GHz, where it's not running so close to the edge all the time as it is at 3.55GHz. I got almost all the speed back (99.8%) that I lost by slowing it down, but it is noticeably quicker in function, and much smoother to boot.

I'm like most people here. I didn't plan on ever running my E6750 at 4.0GHz. I was stupid for even doing it to begin with, as if I had blown the CPU, it would have been an expensive lesson! 3.7 to 3.8GHz! That's my goal for an everyday 24/7 computer with my CPU! A good solid overclock!

Best Regards,
Russ

I've never recorded gameplay before, but many capture cards work independently of video cards. I know ATI has their All-In-Wonder series that is integrated but most cards let the video do its thing while acting much like a converter box on your regular TV. Make sure cards are compatible with your OS because they're picky. make sure it has the inputs you desire, most just take the typical coaxial cable.

It's still about $60 everywhere else. This company just has some great deals every now and then. :)

I got a few other items. Couple fans, some case screws, and some sata cables.... The total on shipping was $8.62. :)

You might be able to go there and see what shipping costs would be. ;)

As far as I know it you can't have two windows OS on on partition so it should overwrite the original xp. I have the same mobo as you, and I installed xp pro and couldn't get the sound to work on that OS. I have xp home on now, with SP2.

to be honest i dont know if the sound works on here now. im on this old small monitor and it dont have speakers. gotta hook it up to the flat panel in the next 20 mins.

as for the xp pro. when iput it in, it will ask if iwant to update to xp pro. i wonder if that will fix my problem?

tried Oc'ing to 3.51ghz again. bumped up my vcore to 1.35 and my MCH up .1v everything locked up on me had to go back to original settings.i did update bios to F11 when it has a shutdown like that it automatic puts everything back to factory spec...nice failsafe there.. guess im stuck at 3.42ghz right now

I suspect your drive is fine, but you possibly have some garbage leftover from the install.

Go into Windows Explorer, and right-click on your C: drive and select "Search", then click on "What size is it", then select "Specify size in KB" type in 100000, then select Search, and when it has finished select size at the top, twice, so it shows the largest to the smallest sizes.

The search will show in MB's the files which are larger than 100MB. Then it will be up to you as to whether or not you can delete them that are in the list......scary time!

I'll bring some calm to this conversation, my Thermaltake unit puts out 12.4V as well... so far no incident.
Rob: Unfortunately you HAVE to format the drive with the service pack already installed, I don't think you can expand the partition live.
The only way I know of solving that problem is to reinstall XP using a different CD, one that already comes with the service packs.
