Rob, how do you now get to at least 4Ghz man. With your setup I would be pushing the limits, not trying to get above 3.51ghz! lol

Because Rob doesn't suffer from the impatience of youth! ROFLMAO!! No one wants to hear about the Labor Pains, they just want to see the Baby! LOL!!

Hey Rob! Take your time, and you'll learn more that will help you the next time!

Russ, I've been there and done that. I don't like waiting. I have a general idea of what my computer can do and I push it up that high.

you guys know way more about this than i do. and as much as i want it up there like boozer does. i also want to have it around for a while so i can learn what i can and cant do.and as Russ said i am patient enough to take my time. im slowly figureing things out about this as i go along, and to be honest im kinda slap happy that I figured out the Hard drive thing. with some help and pushing in the right direction from everyone here. you all have been a great help to me.

haven 3 boys and working second shift the only time i really get to play with this is at night after work, when im tired like i was lastnight and got mad...lol

well the 100gb is in place as slave and seems fine.

tried to OC some. took it up to 3.51ghz up'd the vcore to 1.35, mem is at 1170, 3.0 multi
it runs but wont pass a stress test. put it back to normal 3.46ghz and all of a sudden it wont pass stress there either.

went back in put the mem down to 2.5 multi 975. a little under clocked. i got it at 390 freq= 3.51ghz running orthos now for 20+ mins still stable. cpu and mem.

heres whats odd. when i had the mem at 1170 and ran the stress test with cpu and mem it failed. but if i did cpu alone(at3.51ghz) it was stable. so thats telling me the mem is holding it back not the CPU.
like i said i under clocked the mem a little and its running stable at 3.51ghz gonna let orthos run all night and see what it does

rob it's always good to try and run your RAM as close to "stock" as possible when you're first OC'in. A little under is better than a little over at this point for sure. You basically take the RAM out of the equation if it's at stock or lower. You can focus on the CPU and push it until you need to play with the FSB, MCH, or RAM. :) hth.....

Installed the TR Ultra 120. It was a little more involved than I thought it would be but I'm sure I'll be happy. I'm in need of sleep so I'll post some temps tomorrow evening. ;)

rob you thought the cooler you had was big, L@@K at this. :P

@GM
man will the side cover fit???lol. that joker is big. looking at that nice case you have there ;) those 140mm fans you got on top look better than the 120mm in the same spot.

well after 4 1/2 hr of orthos at 3.51ghz all is well nice and stable
i guess it was just the matter of trail and error. seems like the 2.5 multi is the way to go. leave the 3.0 alone. seeing that i got educated a bit here. i decided to take the freq up to 400. yup 3.6ghz and mem is still on the 2.5 multi running a tad under 1066 at at nice 1000. and stable. im actually running orthos as i type. been going about 20 mins all is well.

That's what we like to see! It's a monster of a cooler, and yeah, it is slightly awkward to get on, but well worth the effort.
If there's one thing that I do think would be better with my current cases is if they had a big, or multiple big top fans. Nothing silly like the 200mm on the 900, but at least a 120 would be nice - an 80mm can't push that much air before it starts making a din.

The RC-690 is way better for cooling than the P182, but the P182 is better suited for silence.

Rob: I believe the 150 dollar one is the server-grade drive.

As I Said, I believe one has server grade reliability ratings.

rob you're scaring me!! hehehe. rob got it pretty close but I only have 3 x 320GB Seagate HDD's and 5 ODD's (/me likes testing different ODD's). lol. He (rob) likes to exaggerate a bit. :P

@GTR,
NP with the questions. lol. The cooler is a Thermalright Ultra 120 Rev. A. I put an AeroCool Xtreme Turbine 120 on the cooler but haven't tested it yet. I expect it to be loud on full tilt but I don't plan to run it there for normal cooling, just for the Xtreme need. ;)

rob listed the other stuff except for the "changes" that I made above. lol.

I like the CM RC-690 case, it's fairly quiet for an "open" case but I do have "quiet" fans installed atm. Those 140 AeroCools are impressively quiet and push plenty of air. lol. I was messing with them and set an envelope on top of the case and it will hover about an inch above the case before falling off. Kinda cool really, pun intended. :P

I'll get some more pics for those that want to see them later tonight. Got to do the work thing whether I want to or not right now. ;)

sammy you have to expand on that. lol. Server grade reliability means that it can survive the constant beating that a server takes which is FAR more than most of our needs. Well unless you're running a server like sammy does. ;0

rob the $120 Seagate will meet your needs with NO problems.....
