every dvd rw that i want to write with imgburn is giving me this meseage this disc need to be formatteddd before you can write to it and i press yes and it erased the disc but most of my discs said operation fail and even if they are new it does the samething i am using memorex 4x and i am writing at 4x so am i missing something or doing something wrong?

Never had any problems from ImgBurn; it's a really good program. Not sure what could be the problem, but here are a few things to try first.

Is your firmware uptodate? Check here: http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_search.php to see if there are any updates for your disk burner.

Try uninstalling and a fresh install of ImgBurn.

Get some Good blank media! Few people here have any respect for Memorex. Try Verbatim or Tayio Yuden. Try some + or - R media (one use only). Again, many people say a lot of RW media will be inferior.

Burn at half the rated speed of the disk.

Try these ideas. Post back if problems continue; someone should be able to help.

how do i know if my burner can burn i DVD-R?

Look in your owners manual. Most burners work with either + or - format media. Some do both. Most likely it will burn the same + or - format on R media that it can handle on RW media. I have not heard of a drive that will burn only RW media and not R media.

Google online for a review of your drive model. That should tell you if you no longer have a manual.
