Ive been having problems burning DivX to dvd. I can burn movies and cds with Nero.I created the files with DivX converter.
I updated the firmware on my burner but nothin? Ive tried multisesson and no multisesson as a data dvd. Nero is the only burning program on my cpu also.
My old DivX movies still work. Ive literally gone through 10 dvd-r's! I dont know what to do, all my media works but DivX. Hopefully somebody can help

Thanks in advance :)

Hi.

I'm a little confused. Are you trying to convert DivX files to dvd compliant files or just trying to burn a raw DivX file as a data DVD?

Hello again.

Try posting your Nero history log for the failed attempt. The log is in one of these paths:

Nero 6: Program Files -> Ahead -> Nero -> NeroHistory
Nero 7: Program Files -> Nero -> Nero7 -> Core -> NeroHistory

The NeroHistory file is divided into sections, one for each of the last several attempts. Each section begins with a header followed by your name and Nero program serial number. It is only necessary to post any one section dealing with a failed attempt. Be sure to delete your name and serial number before posting.

I will try that. the funny thing is that the discs are competed, finalized but they dont play in my LG dvd player. The lda530 is only a year old and my old DivX files play back. I will post because I am getting an error burning dual layer +R's.

You have Roxio installed, it clashes with Nero, to remove, run this zapper http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/Uninstallers/Roxio-Zap.shtml

Thanks, I followed the guideline and the uninstall of Roxio

In the channel properties do I set device 1's transfer mode at "auto detection" or "none" ?

I never install roxio or seen it on the OS software list before which is weird.

I will try another burn with a DL DVD+R and hope all goes well,

Thanks for your help! :)

Hello.

Nero is not a good choice for burning DL media.
Burning directly from Nerovision is not a good idea either.

Use ImgBurn for burning DL media.

http://www.imgburn.com

Use the Write to Hard Disk Folder in NeroVision as the output device to create a folder of DVD video files. Then use ImgBurn to create an ISO, to locate the layer break, and to burn the disk.

Guide: http://forum.imgburn.com/index.php?showtopic=1777

If this is a single DivX you're converting, why not just change the quality settings to fit it to a DVD5 or use DVD Shrink to compress the DVD folder you create to fit a DVDs?

Laptop burners are more finicky than desktop burners. I don't know what brand of DL media you're using. Have you been able to burn +R DL media with this burner before? If not, you may need more up to date firmware. Updating the firmware for that burner is not straightforward because it is used by several manufacturers in several configurations. Here are the links you'll need to go that route:

Thanks,

I will try that out. I am using memorex dual layer DVD+R. I'm burning a few seasons of a t.v. show on to DivX but i thought id try dual layers because the DivX files were not burning properly.

I did the firmware upgrade on that site and then I lost my dual layer reading proprties when I updated the firmware. I believe i do have the right firmware. Im ready to buy an external burning drive for dvd's.

I will try to burn and image file.
How should I burn multiple DivX files to dvd-r's? with or without Nero?

Thanks again for you help

Use Nero Vision Epress or ConvertXtoDVD.

Hi again.

To respond to your questions.

I love my laptop like a child. However, I always use an external burner and external HDD unless I'm on the road. Just buy a regular desktop burner and an external enclosure and you should be ready to go. I've used both Firewire and USB 2. Both work fine. You can burn a little faster with Firewire usually but I burn at 4X anyway so speed isn't a big issue with me. Buy an OEM drive from a maker that keeps firmware updates coming. The best choices imo are BenQ, NEC, and Liteon. Now that NEC has changed suppliers, I'd hold off on them unless you can get a NEC 3550. It's a good one.

Memorex DL media isn't very good as compared to Verbatim +R DL, the best by far. However, it is burnable if you have good firmware. I'm just not familiar with that laptop burner so I don't know if it'll burn it or not.

Many around here use VSO's ConvertXtoDVD for converting AVIs to DVD compliant files. Many also use NeroVision since they already have the Nero suite.

You don't gain quality by converting AVIs to DVDs. Try using DVD Shrink to compress your converted files to a DVD5 and see if the quality is acceptable. It may or may not be depending on the source file and the bitrate conversion. Remember that even the professional boxsets seldom have more than 4 one hour episodes per DL DVD.

I created the image file with Nero Vision and it plays back on my laptop just fine. I used DVD Shrink to burn to a DVD-R. I cannot get it to play back in my dvd player. (Lda530, LG). Shrink completed the burn process with no errors at all?

What should I have my settings adjusted to in the preferences?

I am getting a new external burning drive, but not for a few weeks so I'm gonna fight with this one till the death!

Well if the disk playsback fine in PC drive etc, thwn I'd say ti was your DVD player, not the dvd drive in PC. How old is this dvd player? Do you know that it supports DVD-R/+R/RW formats?

What did you use to autoburn from Shrink with? DVD Decrypter, Nero, Imgburn?

You said the ISO played back OK. Did the burned DVD playback OK on your PC drive? Did it just not playback OK on the standalone player?

Sometimes the media and burning speed/quality affects playback on standalones. Did the standalone player not recognize the disk, i.e., give a no disk message or did it say illegal disk or incorrect format? Did the standalone player generate a error message of any sort?

If the converted AVIs were in PAL format and not converted to NTSC and you have a NTSC player, they won't play.

The media you were using was never identified in the Nero log as I recall. What brand of meia are you using? If you want, download DVD Identifier. It will ID the actual manufacturer of the disk.

http://dvd.identifier.cdfreaks.com

Best media is Verbatim, Taiyo Yuden, and made in Japan labeled Fuji and Sony.

The DVD-R (no more DL) I burnt didnt play back in my pc either. I burnt the image file with Shrink (and used Nero under the settings), probably bad idea.
I have the burn log from Nero recode when I tried to recode the Nero img. file to a DVD-R. I actually worked but it looks like crap! Ive got make a smaller iso file.

the best way to do create an iso file?
-burn with Nero vision to folder or better program
-img burn
-shrink

What programs do you use instead of Nero?

You'll need to edit out your Nero serial number that appears immediately below this heading:

----- Begin NeroAPI error log -----

Click the paper/pencil icon in the upper right of your post to enter edit mode.

One of the things that bothers me is that Nero never identifies the media you're using. That's usually a very bad sign. Either download DVD Identifier (see the link in one of my above posts) or stick a blank DVD into DVD Decrypter in ISO Write mode or ImgBurn in Write mode and post back what's listed for Disk ID:. Since the burned disk didn't playback in either the standalone or the PC drive, something's wrong with the burn. Either the burner is bad, the media is bad, or the firmware is very out of date. There's not too much you can do about the burner firmware for this drive as it's not well supported it seems. Let's see if we can ID the media you're using and then go from there.
