Hello all..
I've had several camcorders before - even way back when they were nothing more than a VCR you threw on your shoulder. All the ports ever needed, and more, were to be found on those old ones.
I've just realized after having it 6 months, that my Sony miniDV doesn't have A/V in. I was going to use it to tape tv shows, then capture and burn to DVD.
I've been reading various articles/reviews about tv tuner cards, and now my brain is spaghetti. I was wondering if the great minds at AD have any suggestions for me. I am using a Dell E510 dual core 2.66 with 2GB RAM. I have about 50GB free on my hard drive. The PC only has one available slot, which is a PCI express slot. Running XP SP2. I've also read that the solution depends on where you are, so for what it may be worth, I'm in the USA.
The setup will NOT be used to simply watch TV. I want this setup to be able to do two things:
1. I want to run the coax from my DirectTV satelite (actually I'll take it loose from the TV) box to the computer to record tv shows/movies, which later will be burned to DVD. I think the DirectTV signal is digital, but not positive.
2. I want to be able to interface my VCR to it so I can copy old VCR tapes to DVD. I guess this is analog?
I've read reviews that say to stay away from the external USB tv tuner boxes because the USB interface is too slow. On the other hand, I've read that the internal tv tuner cards get too hot. I am running Nero 6.6.0.18, nothing more, nothing less, and have been pleased with the results burning DVDs, even DL Verbs.
Maybe there is a better way to do this than a tv tuner card, I don't know. Any suggestions would certainly be appreciated.
Thanks,
Craig
