I have the same drive (internal) came with the PSOA too. No problems w/ it but did update to PSOB.
Don't know what media codes were in the latest so since you're using Verbs may not make a diff. If you start burning dual layer discs I would definitely update.

Whats the product number for the internal that you have? Do you think yours is better than the 165H6S internal liteon series

The only diff is the 165H6S has LightScribe. Both are good drives.
Your error message- how did you rip the file to your hard drive? It's showing you trying to open a file from your C drive (usually the hard drive).
Yeah I've gotten that message when I picked the wrong drive :) So if you trying to rip from the disc w/ Clone change the path.

ok cool that worked thanks.
Im getting all kinds of good burns with this drive now. I have been testing these new Liteon burns with nero's dvd speed on both (old and new) drives. On my new drive the tests come out with amazing results (pi failure total at 50 with a max of 1) and then when i go to test the same burnt dvd on the old drive i get average results(Pi faiure total at 600 with a max of 2). Is this normal? why are there different results on different drives?
Just about a half hour ago, that damn 1GB failure at 30 came up when i tested scarface :(
This failure only shows up on the old drive though and when i tested scarface with the new drive it gave me really good results. Any ideas whats going on?

Hmmm I guessing Scarface has a playback problem in that spot?
Try playing it back in the LiteOn and see if that spot plays ok.
No 2 drives scan the same. Some are better than others.
Take one of the same discs you scanned with the LiteOn and scan it again - this time at a different read speed. Probably won't get exactly the same results.
I put more stock in how they play and being able to re rip much later.
I have a scan of a Ritek for example done over 2 years ago (burned on a LiteOn) that has a score of 0. To look at it you would think playback would be horrible if at all and read errors out the ying yang.
Neither one is true . Plays fine and can re rip w/o a problem.
Does this always hold true though- not at all. Kinda why I put more faith in playback.

is this true, someone said this in another forum
Quote: LiteOn "CD" burners used to be great. The DVD burners are not the best for quality, although they have improved a bit, they would still be my "last" choice.
and then some1 else said this
Quote: LITE-ON drives are not the greatest, but if it works for you... I'd suggest an LG... I have a GSA-H10N and I get excellent burns out of it, but it does not do quality scanning. I have an old BenQ DW1640 for that... Since BenQ has faded from the market, I may pick up a LITE-ON to do scans at some point.

No - I've been using LiteOn drives for over 3 years and they are one of the best imho. I'm not the only one here that uses and recommends them. I wouldn't recommend them if I did not have personal experience with them.
I do alot of burning and they have stood the test of time.
Different forums will have different ones they like. Nothing wrong w/ LG - BenQ is a great drive too - would have recommended that one 2 but they are hard to find if you can find them since BenQ was bought by LiteOn.
On newegg you notice a lot of the reviews are good too for LiteOn.
Same can go for most good drives - reviews/recommends though you never know what the users knowledge/experience is so can go both ways.
I wouldn't try and steer you wrong :)

hmmm well i shall decide soon as i have to take this external LiteOn back to wal-mart. In the meantime im gettin some good burns out of this one. Only complaint so far is it gave me a coupl of dvd's that couldnt be read or tested on any dvd player or dvd drive so i had to throiw the dvd's away? wierd huh? I think the only times it happened is when i tried to burn a dvd that is only 40 minutes long and only takes up 2GB of data. Why is that?

Could be how & what you used to burn the disc.
Like doing a mulitsession disc.
So what kind of file were you burning? And how did you do it - like used Nero burning rom using the iso/udf option.
There's always a reason :) Just need to figure it out.

well im pretty consistent with my burning. I always use CloneDVD with AnyDVD to Rip and then burn the dvd, Verbatim 16 DVD-R MCC 03rg20, i always burn at either 6x or 8x. These coasters were the same thing i always do. The only thing different that i could think of was that the movies were split in half when it was ripped to the hard drive because some were too large. The first half burned fine but the second half were the coasters. The second half of the ripped movies were only like 30 minutes long and only 2GB. My other burner burned the split 2GB files fine but this LiteOn i think maybe has a problem with Movies less than 2GB????Could that be it?

No I don't think it has a problem with split movies (not something I do - have only done 2x I think). But I have put smaller files on discs and all was okay.
I'm not familiar w/ splitting w/ Clone - only used Shrink to do it.
My thought is it has something to do with the split w/ Clone and how it burned it.
2 gig seems high for 30 mins but I could be wrong (math could be way off) - some players have a problem with discs under 1 gig so that might be the problem. (?)
Did they play back in the drive?

I thought you got an external? Either way they are plug and play - they use Window's drivers.
What was the error code in the pop up - that one gives you the drive that's causing the problem.

Cause you has this after i installed this new drive
Just had me a little confused since externals aren't installed - well unless you take them out of the enclosure and install them internally.
So the drive either external or internal is using Window's drivers.

When you 1st get the pop up from windows there should be an error reference code before what you posted above.
Post that and we can see which one it is.
The software I'm thinking is to use one of the features of the drive - ez dub I think it's called.
