Uhh, 4x is 4x right? regardless of if the drive is an external, running on USB 2.0. Forgive my ignorance, what else are the downfalls of externals. Which internals are recommened? I beleive I can still take it back.

Thanks

I think you may have posted on the wrong thread here ;-)
If you haven't , I don't really understand

The best internal burner is either the Pioneer a05/105 or a06/106 (depending if you feel the need for dual format as 106 incl. +RW)
Both burn at X4

Herbsman: I didn't really post in the wrong forum, I was just unclear. I will get clear now...

I am about to throw this piece of shit computer through the fucking window!!!

I took your advice and tried something other than dxcx to back "About a boy" up. I used DvdShrink. It said it would take 337 mins to encode. I tried dxcx, it took 1.5 hours to read and fucking froze when I was SUPPOSE to insert my media. WTF!!!! I can see, as you said before I have a hardware problem, but I show none. The reason I asked about my external drive is that I thought that may be dragging me down. any thoughts?

ah , ok

I didn't really realise you were using an external burner...

I will suggest as I always do (cos I know it works) that if your not using firewire connection then that is the course of action to take !!
It doesnt have a data transfer failure rate anything like that of USB 2.0

Herbsman: Thanks for the help. I am getting rid of the external NEC drive and getting the Pioneer A06. Also, I beleive I may have a memory problem so I will upgrade there also. I will report back if I have further problems. Again, thanks

Hope you are happy with the Pioneer 106 (you'll only need this if you require +/-R formats btw)
I personally do not , but I dont burn PS2 games

The a05/105 is probably £30 cheaper than the a06/106 if you don't really need a dual format burner...

Anyway , good luck
Need any help...just holla ;-)

yea, got lucky today. picked up the 106 for $199 USD. Got the last one. it had a mail in rebate but still was $20 USD cheaper than the 105. I am still having problems but I am really narrowing it down. Thanks
