Hi there, I have a Fujitsu Siemens laptop. The DVD R does not pick up newer 16x blank dvd's. It does not read them at all. I think the drive on here is only a 4x writer. It only picks up older blank dvd's. Can this be rectified by updating the firmware? if so, how do I go about this?

Thanks for the help. AD rocks!

yes you can do a firmware update check here for your drive .all you have to do is download the file.

if that doesn't work you will have to replace the drive/burner for a newer model that will except 16x media

You could take the advice of aabbccdd ! which would be the cheapest course of action for sure - A firmware update first ! and then if that does'nt work you have Another 2 or more options - replace your internal Dvd burner with a more current model able to record/play 16x disc which in laptops I'm not sure what's currently available ! and where the Speed tops out at !Or if your Laptop has a Usb Jack you could add an external drive ( Burner ) of your choice ! assuming you don't mind the added weight or bulk !Which you may or may not ! That's a personal choice I would suppose ! But you would also be getting an extra drive that you could share with the home /desktop computer. In a pinch you could do a variation of the old Sneakernet ! That is Rip your DVD/Software / Game or whatever you are backing up to the laptop HDD then burn your backup dvd to your External drive at your leisure later at home ! that way you avoid toting the extra weight yet still get your disc burned in the end ! Like I sad just a thought Wired . Good luck with whatever course of action that you choose & happy Xmas!

Ok thanks a lot for your help. I also have a PC that I mainly use for backing up anyway. I was just wondering on how to sort the problem on the laptop. Thanks again
