Im getting a dell 4300 for free dont know any specs on it at the moment except the model. Can I add a video card would it support a 256 or 512 mb card. Can I add ram if so how much can it support? Do you guys think it would be worth it to add a video card and ram on it? Do you think it will preform good on games such as counter strike source or battelfield 2 on a good video card something like a 256mb 7600gt or 7950gt 512mb card? The computer is in mint condition it has only been used about 5-6 times from the time it was bought.

dude, dude, calm down, take a deep breath, now exhale :)
wait till you have got it in your hands as it might of already been modded or upgraded slightly. then run everest on it to find out exactly what hardware you have inside, then you know what you have to play with.

not 100% but it might be a p4 running around 1.5ghz it might, if your lucky, have an agp slot. the thing is every one they make will be slightly different as the customer specifies the spec of it before they buy it.

Thanks for the link. It says there are two ram slots and it supports up to 512mb. Would that be each slot I can have 512mb for a total of 1 gig or each slot up to 256mb for a total of 512 mb?

it might be possible to go higher in ram but the cost of pc133 sdram will be high for 512meg sticks. save your money to buy parts for new computer as you will be able to salvage parts off the dell like rom drives, hd & video card(maybe).

Do you think it will be worth it to get a worst video card with 512mb video ram compared to a better video card with 256mb video ram because I can only have 512mb ram? Do you think it would preform better in either way?

don't think you can get an agp card with 512 meg to work because of this "AGP bus protocols 4x/2x modes at 1.5 V". 512meg videocard are 8x agp besides pci/e that you don't have.

I would save up for better parts and salvage things like HD, DVD Drive ect or use as something that requires less power like a NAS box.
