Hello all!

At first, I'm no expert. I would be glad if someone can help me with the following problem:

I had problems burning DVDs with my new PLEXTOR DVDR PX-760A. The burning interrupted after 6-12% and I got the following error message:

11:26:52 #130 CDR -1114 File Writer.cpp, Line 302
Reset occurred
E: PLEXTOR DVDR PX-760A

After some research I tried several suggested things, such as:
-turned DVD high compatibility mode off
-made a firmware update: from 1.04 to 1.05
-tried different DVD types (Verbatim; DVD-R, DVD+R)

After the firmware update, the simulation funktioned/completed, but the simulated burning needed a lot of time, more than normal, I think.
(The previous simulations also needed many time. However, they don't fail anymore.)

Here is my last burning log:

I have read in another thread here at afterdawn that the turned-off DMA can be the problem. I followed the instructions of Alcohol (uninstall drivers and restart PC) but they did not function (still turned-off).

What else can I do?

Nero doesn't see the Via controllers correctly, it seems to me, so they will usually show DMA off for them.

You might try turning off the Speed check and burning at 4x.

The log doesn't show any errors and states simulation was finished successfully. If it then shows an error burning, I would try a slower speed first.

You might also try burning the project to your hard drive to see if it finishes correctly that way. Then burn the image using NeroBurning ROM.

Use that guide to turn your DMA back on. Plus heres a link to download the lastest Nero.

http://ww2.nero.com/nero7/enu/nero7-up.php

Just use that link but before your download it use nero's own cleantool to uninstall your version first.

Good luck

What do you mean with "tunrning off the Speed?" Do you mean that I shall remove the automatic max speed when burning and use 4x instead?
(Sorry, my English is limited... I come from Germany.)

Use that guide to turn your DMA back on. Plus heres a link to download the lastest Nero.

http://ww2.nero.com/nero7/enu/nero7-up.php

Just use that link but before your download it use nero's own cleantool to uninstall your version first.

I tried the guide already (see my first post above) and it did not function. Perhaps this is another case. It seems that DMA is not installed. Could that be? If so, what I have to do?

Update your Nero from here

http://www.filehippo.com/download_nero_7_premium/

As the version you are currently using, 7.0.1.2 is known to be "bug free" then there is no need to run any clean tools

and as previously advised

In another thread in this forum a member had similiar problems with the same DVD-recorder:

http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/422049

I discovered that I had no ASPI layer/no ASPI drivers in the windows directories. So, I tried the suggested ForceASPI. Nero-Info now sees Windows ASPI(s), but the burning at 6x still fails:

I also discovered that I have no driver for the DMA-Controller installed. That's why I think, I'm unable to turn the DMA on.?. Under the properties of the Primary and Secondary IDE-Channels also stands that DMA is not usable (if I translate it correctly). Do I need to install the DMA-Controller (probably yes)? Where can I download it?

I have not tried the Nero-Update yet!

Go into Nero and select file, options, then expert features and turn off the enable short lead out.

See if that helps, because it seems that is where the failed burn is happening.

At first, I have updated my Via drivers and hoped that would change my burning problem, but that did not help.

Regarding the "short lead out" feature, that is strange. I had already disabled this feature. I checked this again : enabled and disabled. I burned a small file each. The enabled burning failed. The disabled burning succeeded!!! :)

However, the burning duration in general seems very long... Could it be because my recorder is connected to a Serial ATA connector (SATA2) instead on a IDE connector. Here is my last log:

I can't tell that much about your system, but it appears you have your hard drive and burner on the same port. Do you have a way of putting the burner on a separate channel?

Maybe something about the Promise controller or other controller setup is causing problems.

.. Could it be because my recorder is connected to a Serial ATA connector (SATA2) instead on a IDE connector. Here is my last log:

The 760A is IDE the 760SA is SATA. The SATA drives have been very temperamental and finicky.

I have two Serail ATA ports and two Raid Serial ATA ports. Can I use the Raid Serial ATA ports? I have an English manual, but as I understand it , the ports are only for hard drives, aren't they?

What do you mean with Promise controller? I'm not an expert in computer hardware. :-)

Sorry, I know that an Nero update is an option. However, my internet connection (56K modem) and my old laptop (where the modem is inside; I can continusely use the laptop only for a maximum of 1 hour before it will be to hot and turns off. :( ) hinder me to download large files... I will try this from a friends computer...when he and I have time!

:)

I like to repeat myself again as well... :) (1. and 5. post) I already know this thread and tried it, but it did not funtion!

If the Promise Raid Console is an external device, you might try disconnecting it. I thought it was probably a controller card. If it is a controller, are the 2 drives attached to it?

Since I don't have 2 devices connected to my SATA connector, I can't tell how the ports are numbered. As far as I know, you can only put one device on one SATA connector, so yours is probably correct for your configuration.

Did you install any of the software that came with the Plextor? It seems to have some technology that might be doing some of the same things as Nero.

I don't see a SA version of the Burner mentioned, but it might be sold in Europe or somewhere else.

What is the Promise Raid Console? Do you mean this from my last log? As I said I'm an "idiot" in hardware...

=== Scsi-Device-Map ===
OtherPeripheral : Promise RAID Console 1.00 fasttx2k Port 2 ID 4 DMA: Off
DiskPeripheral : SAMSUNG SP1614C SW10 viamraid Port 4 ID 0 DMA: Off
CdRomPeripheral : PLEXTOR DVDR PX-760A 1.05 viamraid Port 4 ID 2 DMA: Off

My two devices - the hard drive and the DVD recorder - are attached on two different Serial ATA connectors (SATA1 and SATA2) on my Motherboard (Asus A8V Deluxe).

I installed Plextor Tools, yes. Really? OK, I check this. However, I need some time to do this...

The SA version is sold here.

Well, with all the things suggested I found this thread, which seems to suggest you update Nero. An update has been suggested but as far as I can tell, you have not tried. This may not be your exact problem, but the equipment is close.

http://www.cdrinfo.com/forum/tm.asp?m=122364

Many times, even reinstalling the original version will help, but you are very far behind. You could have downloaded a new version by now, even on a modem.
