My Japanese PS3 is making me upgrade to v1.30 to sign in. It kind of sucks that you can't sign into the playstation network with out the most current version, it's smart on Sony's part though. So expect an update to hit American consoles probably in the next day or two.

Oh yeah I'll tell you the upgrades in about 30 minutes, I get my updates from http://www.jp.playstation.com/ps3/update/#pcud and use a thumb drive (it's a lot quicker) since the PS3 downloads really slow. Maybe they fixed the web browser???

What's funny is I never thought about using a translator, I just scrolled down and pushed the buttons till one started an install. I wish I knew if the us and jp one is different, thay are always the same size file???

Sony Computer Entertainment America released its first update for the PlayStation 3 today, adding support for the Blu-ray remote and more Blu-ray video outputting options.
The new PS3 update, version 1.30, added several new features. From Sony's media announcement:
* Selecting video output resolution has changed, allowing you to choose all the resolutions supported by the TV. The video will automatically be displayed at the maximum resolution possible, according to the following order: 1080p, 1080i, 720p, 480p, Standard (NTSC).
* Backup utility has been added as a feature under System Settings, enabling you to back up your PS3's hard disk data to storage media or restore data from storage media to the hard disk.
* USB peripherals designed for PlayStation 2 titles, including steering wheels and flight sticks, can now be used when playing PlayStation 2 games on the PS3 system.
The announcement also sends word that the PS3 Blu-ray Remote will be available for $24.99 "later this month.
