I have a 4.55GB VIDEO_TS file and tried to burn it to 4.75GB dvd disk and Nero said it was too large to fit on the disk..Had to shrink it to 4.3GB to burn with Nero..Is there a setting so 4.55GB file will fit on a 4.75GB disk in Nero? Using ver 6.6

Hi mmraam
Even though the say they are 4.7 gig it's a little misleading. A single layer disc actually holds 4.38 gig - give or take a mb for lead in/lead out.

Here's a blurb from aD's glossary:
DVD-5 is an acronym that means a DVD disc that is one-sided single-layer disc and can contain upto 4.38 gigabytes of data on it.

DVD disc manufacturers love to use marketing terms and sell their discs as 4.7GB discs, but this is not true -- the 4.7GB is calculated by using so-called "Japanese gigabytes", where the power of calculations is 1,000 instead of 1,024 (and 1.024 is the correct way to calculate everything in computer world -- so, 1024 megabytes == 1 gigabyte).

Thanks Binkie..and thanks to whoever made DVD Shrink! Got movie on disk now with great quality..I did experiment with using Shrink with and without the extreme analysis and it pays off waiting the extra hour or so it takes to use the analysis feature..Burned at 12X with Nero and came out perfect..

You can also use Nero Recode...slightly faster with slightly better results than DVD Shrink and made by the same fella.

You're welcome mmraam :)

Locoeng - good point - Recode is a little faster and better.

It also has an advanced analysis option.
Just need to rip it 1st to your hard drive w/ something like DVDFab Decrypter or have AnyDVD running in the background since it wouldn't do copy protected movies by it's lonesome.

Bought the new Pirates of the Caribbean dvd yesterday, decrypted main movie only w/ DvdFabDecrypter and got a VIDEO_TS folder of 5.99GB..
Thought I'd try to shrink it with Nero Recode as mentioned in above post. Set for DVD5, 2 passes, extra quality etc.
Started burn process..1st pass took 2-1/2 hrs, 2nd pass started with estimated time at 380 min. Got to 305 min. and stopped! I let it sit for 1/2 hr and it was just stopped.
Went to DVDShrink and whole process took about 2.5 hrs w/ no problem..
Any ideas on why Recode died during 2nd pass?

Not really sure way Nero choked on the 2nd pass. But your times seem high depending on your pc specs.

Was 2.5 hrs w/ Shrink just the one pass or did you have any of quality enhancements checked?

I'm kinda thinking may be overloading on the 2nd pass. So what are you pc specs like the processor and ram?
All drives in DMA mode?

Do a disc cleanup and defrag very recently?

Shrink was set for deep analysis and the quality set to sharp.
Maybe I'll try Recode with 1 pass setting and see what finished product looks like..
'Puter not a problem, 1.5gb ram and dual core processor..
3 300 GB hard drives with 2 drives split to 2 operating systems each w/ dual boot. The 1st drive is for my everyday stuff..The 2nd drive has all my encoders, converters, Video capture etc. All completed conversions etc. get saved to the 3rd drive, the 3rd drive has OS only with nothing else installed for movie storage and all my VIDEO_TS folders, AVI's etc. go to it so I have no conflicts (irq's etc). All drives in DMA mode.

Got hooked on this video stuff big time and try to learn as much as I can each day so thanks for all the help!!

Not a problem mmraam
Yeah this can be addicting :)

Recode does do a pretty good job and looking at the size of the file 1 pass may be fine.
I try and keep things in the 70+ range and just use the one pass.
Playback on my setups is good for me.

Just used Recode with 1 pass and everything came out just hunky-dory..next movie I will time both it and Shrink to see whats faster..
I'm retired so have plenty of time for experiments!!
Now have full movie copies of both Cars and Pirates of the Caribbean to give my kids for xmas..(They live with their mom)..

Thanks again for the help Binkie!

Recode is faster by a few minutes or more in my experience.

Wish I had more time to experiment but can't seem to hit that dang lottery :)

Think your kids will love those movies too. I really liked the 2nd Pirates - thought it was better than the 1st one. Cars is cute too.

You're welcome and have a great holiday!!
