Yeah there is a DevHook version that doesn't flash. Check this thread:
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/430680
Follow my instructions to get it to work on firmware 2.71 SE-C:
Quote: I got it to work on 2.71 SE-C!
To get it to work on 2.71 SE-C you must go to Recovery mode and make the game folder for 1.5 homebrew. You must do this otherwise it will show up as corrupt data. Then put the % and non-% folders in PSP\GAME and then run it. Thats it!
You might want to put that in the first post hexitnow so that people know how to get it running on 2.71 SE.
Also I made a mod of the installer to allow it to install firmware 3.02:
Quote: Ok, I made a mod of the firmware installer to allow you to install firmware 3.02. As this installer doesn't allow you to use the 3.02 update.
Download it from here:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=E8HT40XX
Extract the archive and then copy all the files in the MS_ROOT folder into the root of your memory stick. Then copy the 3.02 UPDATE Eboot to the root of your memory stick. Now run the installer!

I would say the chances of bricking are even less. Just make sure your PSP's battery is fully charged and you have the AC adapter plugged in.

It is true that the PSP's flash like any other flash of that nature has a certain number of writes before it stops working. However it would take hundreds of flashes before you "wear out" your PSP's flash.
