If its a CDRW Combo then it cant write a DVD. This is because of the power output on the laser. The laser has only been designed for reading DVD's and the CD laser for reading & writing CD's, so in effect it would be trying to write a DVD with a CD Writer.

I just don't see how it's possible. I don't recall the exact numbers but a dvd laser is 1/6th the size of a CD laser in width. Which makes sense because a DVD hold about 6-7 times the data, and therefore has 6-7 times the number of tracks.

All the bruning info you need to start is here: http://www.dvdrhelp.com/forum/userguides/141024.php#dvd9dvd2one

Thats spot on Ken. The pits it burns are about 6 times smaller in size than that of a conventional CDRW laser. The CDRW laser cannot be adjusted or re-focused to burn smaller pits, its imposible. It would take a different laser with a higher output. If you burn a DVD, feel how hot it is when your done. Then burn a CD. It's no where near as hot. Its crude, but it gives you an idea.

Try and ask him sometime Rotary
