Burning AVI files with SRT subtitles

I have downloaded a movie (its a long movie) in Mandarin.

Its divided in three 700 MB .avi files

I also have 3 .srt files

The .srt and .avi files have exactly the same names.

So in total I have 6 files

I own a Divx/xvid DVD player

What I'd like to do is burn three CD-ROMS

How do I do this ?

I'd suggest one DVDR since it is cheaper than 3 CDR's. 3 * 700MB's would put you over 2GB's though and some players don't like UDF. Still even 3 parts on one disc is better than 3 parts on 3 discs.

Most players can handle external srt's just fine. Just burn as is. If your player can't handle them and is DivX certified, then you would remux to DivX with xsubs.

celtic_d I always assumed the burner would use UDF only if a single file was 2GB or larger not the total amount.Am I wrong? I burn my AVIs to DVD with Nero or CopyToDVD with multiple files totalling over 4GB and IsoBuster says they ISO/Joliet.
Burning the movies and subtitles is a no-brainer with Nero. Just use Nero Express and choose data disc.

I tried doing so.

It didnt work

I simply burned the .avi with the .srt in the data disc option, but when I played it the player didn't pick up the subtitles. I had the video and audio only ?

Why is that ?

meaning that if joined, it would be over 2GB's.
still even 3 parts on one disc is better than 3 parts on 3 discs.
meaning that you could avoid UDF by not joining.

External srt subtitles are by no means part of any standard. No reason why players have to support them, so some don't. Just that most do. Hell I think even the DVP-642 supports them. Next step would be xsubs. In theory they are supported by all DivX certified players. Since they are bitmap based though, I guess they could push your files over 700MB's.

I finally decided to merge the .avis and .strs permanently.

I did that following this very easy and step by step guide.
